Jason Fickbohm, M.C., introduced the Royalty as Kristi Nygard played the theme. The crowd focused their attention on the at- tendants, freshmen Renee Ludwig and Craig Treiber; sophomores Anita Gannon and Kim Wegner; and juniors Shari Erickson and Steve Torkelson. Preceding the candidates were Rachelle Wetrosky, flower girl; Tim Vanderham, envelope bearer; and Kelly Moore and Jenny Van Ballegooyen, crown bearers. The spotlight was then focused on the candidates, Kristi Merrick and Rick Lundberg, Tracy Nelson and Dwight Gubbrud, and Tracy Vanderham and Brian Treiber. The envelope was opened and Kristi Merrick and Dwight Gub- brud were announced the 1985 Homecoming King and Queen. Everyone was then entertained by a number of skits. Homecoming Week was very busy with all of the many activities. Mr. Baby Face was held on Monday, which was won by Brian Treiber. Tues- day was Hat Day, Wednesday was Weird Wednesday, Thursday was Dress Up Day, and Friday was Blue and Gold Day. The Downtown and Manor pep rallies were held and on Friday night the Cubs took on the Irene Cardinals. Bottom Left: The Senior class presents “The Dating Game” with the famous Michael Ray Richardson, Windsor Thurston III, and Larry, with his brothers Darrold and Darrold, as the contestants. 10 The Movie “St. Elmo’s Fire” Provides AHS Sweetheart Theme “For Just A Moment” (St. Elmo’s Fire Love Theme) was the theme for the 1986 Sweetheart Coronation, which was held on March 1. The candidates were Tracy Vanderham escorted by Arlan Bern, Danielle Webster escorted by Rick Lundberg, Debbie Limoges escorted by Steve Peck, Tracy Nelson escorted bv Dwight Gubbrud, and Hollie Nygard escorted by Brian Treiber. Joe Van Ballegooyen, M.C. opened the envelope and announc- ed that the 1986 Sweetheart Queen was Tracy Vanderham. The pro- gram that followed consisted of skits by various classes and organizations. Above: The BoShuPetes perform at Alcester High! “Sentimental Street” Sets Scene For Prom The junior class presented the seniors with a lovely prom on May 10, at 6:30 p.m. The seniors were individually escorted to their seats by the sophomore waiters and waitresses. Kristen Anderson, the junior class president, welcomed the seniors to their last prom, and Mr. Hall gave the Invocation. After the meal Tracy Nelson and Dwight Gubbrud presented the class history. Shelley Lappegard and Jason Fickbohm read the class prophecy, followed by the waiters and waitresses singing, “On the Sunny Side of the Street”. The juniors then presented a slide show to the seniors. The pro- gram ended with the juniors sing- ing the theme from “Ice Castles”. ? ;aT ' N - Kevin Carlson provided music for the dance, which was from 9:00 to 12:00. At 12:30 Las Vegas Night, sponsored by the juniors’ parents, started. The 1986 Prom was a night that both seniors and juniors will remember. Some of the many things they accomplished were to get a suggestion box and to get seniors the priviledge to eat first. They were advised by Mr. Joachim. The NHS was advised by Mr. Zingler. They sold candy again and the money to be given in scholar- ships was divided amongst all the seniors. Ross Abraham was Presi- dent of NHS. Pep Club added spirit to AHS. Nygard. 17 Gal Club The Gal Club, made up of all let- ter winners, had various projects throughout the year to raise money. In charge of the Gal Club this year was Mr. Lee White. Some of their activities were National FFA Convention, State FFA Conven- tion, State FFA Leadership Camp, Parent-Member Banquet. All these activities were led by the officers and advisor Mr. Quick. There was a capacity crowd both nights. Through hard work and good guidance from their directors, Mrs. Connie Larsen, Mrs. Mary Horst, and Mrs. Anne Peterson, the musical turned out to be a great success. Annie Oakly was played by Shelley Lap- pegard, and Frank Butler was played by Ross Abraham. Above—Annie’s brother and sisters perform. Below—The two shows owners meet. 25 Vocal Music This year the vocal music department was very busy with several concerts and the vocal con- test in Vermillion. It also put on the musical. On June 3, 1986, Alcester High School Seniors became the newest alumni. Their motto, “What lies behind you and what lies before you are small matters compared to what lies within you” expressed the hopes and thoughts of the seniors. They chose Steve Torkelson, Jeff Schumacher, and Teresa Greenhagen as their stu- dent council representatives. Along with this they have been busy with Homecoming and Sweetheart. They also elected Joe Van- Ballegooyen and Anita Gannon as their student council representatives. Throughout the year, they have been busy with many things. This included decorating tables for Homecoming, and presenting skits at Homecoming and Sweetheart. They chose Anita Gannon and Kim Wegner as their Homecoming attendants. The sophomores had a great year, and finished it off by decorating the stage for graduation. Cubs Display Fighting Spirit The football team’s record was 2-6. Although it was not a winning record, the Cubs played some very good football and are expected to be a very tough team next year as they lost only four seniors. Rick Lundberg and Chad Wells received All- Conference and Dwight Gubbrud was chosen for the All-Conference Honorable Mention team. The girls took home the Tri-Valley Conference consola- tion championship trophy. Tracy Nelson was selected as an All-Conference player and Kristin Seivert received Honorable Mention. The Alcester wrestling team, led by Coach Barry Kelley, ended the season with an overall record of 6- 5. The team consisted of 16 wrestlers, 9 of which lettered. Advancing to the Regional Tour- nament were Rick Lundberg, Jason Fickbohm, Darwin Sogn, David Saugstad, and Jared St. Pierre. Rick Lundberg and Jason Fickbohm both went on to the State competition. When the region meet was over, the boys had 2 going to the State Track Meet in Spearfish. They were Ross Abraham, in the 3200 meter run, and Arlan Bern, in the high jump. The track teams should be commended on a job well done. T The Cross Country team did very well this year by qualifying five out of the six runners for the State meet. They were coached by Mr. Glenn Kroger. The Cubs had a very young team with only one Senior. The team did very well all year and represented Alcester with pride. The cheerleaders really did a good job in adding spirit to the student body. They were all busy making posters and signs adding life and spirit to their sport.
