AHS GETS LOST IN LOVE (L-R) Mary Beth Newberg, Susan Hagen, Queen Melanie Ronning, Paula Evanson, Kathryn Treiber. “Lost in Love” was the theme of the 1984 Sweetheart Coronation which was held on March 3. As the curtain opened, Lisa Holt played the theme song, and Curt Geveshausen introduced the candidates for the Sweetheart Queen. They were Mary Beth Newberg escorted by Todd Wells, Kathryn Treiber escorted by Tom McKee, Susan Hagen escorted by Todd Embrock, Paula Evanson escorted by Robbie Heiman, and Melanie Ronning escorted by Kevin Jacob. Curt slowly opened the envelope and announced that Melanie Ronning was the 1984 Sweetheart Queen. She was crowned by Robbie Heiman and then presented with candy by Helen Schumacher. The program continued as Curt Geveshausen, the “Wolfman”, and Tina Vanderham “Annie Lennox”, hosted Alcester’s version of “Solid Gold”. Solos were sung by Carl Treiber and Gayle Van Wyk, and Tracy Nelson and Brian Treiber sang a duet. The theme song was sung by Landra Allen and Ross Abraham, and many humorous skits were done by the classes. The highlight of the evening was when our own “Van Halen” appeared to perform the 1984 song of the year, “Jump”. Overall the evening was a big success, and the annual Sweetheart Dance followed the coronation. Gayle Sings “Almost Over You” 10
