Randy Hongslo, Keith Lapour, Shane McClara, Shayna Brady, Merrick await the announcement of the 1982 King and Queen Homecoming Makes Memories Homecoming 1982 brought to us the theme “Somewhere Down the Road” Master of Ceremonies, Erik Johnson intro- duced the royalty as Melanie Ronning played the theme accom- panied by Lisa Kleinhans on the flute. The anxious crowd focused their attention on the attendants, freshman Kristi Merrick and Brian Treiber, sophomores Tamra Tucker and Chad Trudeau, juniors Bill Abraham and Kevin Jacob. Preceding the candidates were Andrea Saugstad, Brian Wells, Jennifer Limoges, and Shane Ludwig, the flower, envelope, and crown bearers. The spotlight was then focused on the senior candidates. This years’ candidates were Shayna Brady and Shane McClara, Patty Hammitt and Keith Lapour, and Teresa Limoges and Randy Hongalo. Finally, it was time for Erik to open the envelope. Shane and Teresa were announced as the 1982 Homecoming King and Queen. They were robed and crowned by the 1981 King and Queen, Ken Keiser and Robin Embrock. Everyone was entertained as the classes and organizations performed a number of skits and solos. The traditional bonfire was held after the coronation. Friday the student body had a pep rally at Morningside Manor and also on Main Street. It was then announced that the Seniors had won the class competition that had been held throughout the week. The Cubs lost their game to the Viborg Vikings 28-16. A dance was held after the game with music provided by “The Vandals.” Somewhere down the road, we’ll look back to Homecoming 1982 and remember all the great memories that were created during that week. The beautifully decorated stage received many “oohs and ahhs” as the curtain slowly opened Melanie Ronning on the piano, accompanied by Jill Abraham on the flute, softly played the theme song as the queen candidates were introduced by the master of ceremonies Erik Johnson. The chosen senior girls were Leisa Johnson escort- ed by Ryan Ronning, Barb Cooper escorted by Dean Sommer- void, Patty Hammitt escorted by Danny Schoellerman, Shayna Brady escorted by Shane McClara, and Lisa Kleinhans escorted by Keith Lapour. Erik carefully opened the important envelope and announced that Patty Hammitt was the 1983 Sweetheart Queen. Later Patty was crowned by Keith Lapour, Student Body President, and Valerie Ronning presented a box of candy to the new Queen. The program then continued as Mary Weyen and Kevin Jacob hosted Alcester High School’s version of “Entertainment To- night”. A solo from Carl Treiber, Paula Evanson and Melanie Ron- ning’s duet, and Landra Allen singing the theme song added a special touch to the evening. A dance followed the coronation. The girls gave their best at every game, but it wasn’t enough for some. The girls had a very hard season and had a record of 4-16. Though the girls were not as lucky in winning, they learned a lot. Mr. Erickson, head coach, taught basketball quite differently from other years. The girls learned many new and different moves in basketball. These moves helped in many ways. There was practice twice a day until school started. The A team was led in scoring by Barb Cooper and was led rebounding by Teresa Limoges. The B team also had an exciting season, and each gave her best at every game. The B team was led in scoring by Terri Sogn and Patty Limoges and was led in rebounding by Patty Limoges and Tracy Nelson. The cheerleaders were chosen last May, and from then on they started planning for next year. During the summer they picked out their outfits, and also practiced in the park working on new routines and the school song. For Homecoming they fired up the crowd at the bonfire. Then the day of the game they led the crowds downtown in cheers to get ready for the game that night. The new stadium this year was also decorated by the cheerleaders for Homecoming. During the basketball and wrestling seasons they were also kept very busy. They made many signs to hang up in the school, and on the lockers. For basketball the cheerleaders made a breakfast for the players one morning. They also helped with the parent’s night during the year. Pep rallies were also a big part of their job. They not only have to come and put on the pep rallies, but they also have to plan these. One of the skits that they had was a family fued between the wrestlers and the basketball players. 70 Top Wrestling cheerleaders, front to back: Roxie Pederson, Tamra Tucker.
