The accompanist, Lisa Kleinhans, started softly playing the theme song, and the Master of Ceremonies Wayne Johnson announced the Homecoming Candidates and Attendants for 1981. After the underclass attendants, freshmen Tammi Sogn and Carl Treiber; sophomores Kathryn Treiber and Todd Wells; ju- niors Shayna Brady and Shane McClara were escorted in, the spotlight shone on Ken Keiser and Robin Embrock, who were followed by Grant Gubbrud and Rochelle Twedt, and last in line were Kevin Kroger and Shelley Hartman. Wayne opened the envelope containing the names of the new royal- ty. He then announced, “The Homecoming King and Queen for 1981 are Ken Keiser and Robin Embrock.” The King and Queen were then crowned and robed by last year’s King and Queen, Chris Embrock and Susan Heiman. The royalty and the audience were entertained by various skits and songs. After the coronation there was a traditional pep rally and bonfire. The following evening everyone enjoyed dancing to the music of “The Vandals”, after a victorious game with the Hurley Bulldogs. 6 Homecoming 1981 Clockwise-T raditional “A” burns again. After a short speech by the new queen, the royalty and au- dience were entertained by Johnny Carson and his guests. A flute trio performing “Candle . on the Water”, a solo by Leisa Johnson, and a duet of the theme song by James Newberg and Tara Sonichsen also helped make the evening an enjoyable one. The FFA started out the year with their BOSDC project. Their project consisted of donating $500 toward the contribution of the new restrooms at the football baseball field. In November, three of the sen- ior FFA members, Jon L., Tim A., and Dave F., repre- sented Alcester at the Na- tional FFA Convention in Kansas City. Some of the other activities that the local chapter worked on were sell- ing fruit, replacing and re- pairing street signs. The highlight of the year was having three state farmers in one year and also the possi- bility of having a state offi- cers. The activities have been lead by the local offi- cers and Mr. Quick, local ad- visor. The Alcester FHA also sponsored a Reading Olympics by pledging the money for each book an Elementary child read. Some FHA members represented the chapter at the Regional and State conventions. The cheerleaders worked hard to keep the Alces- ter crowd backing the Cubs with enthusiasm. In spite of their effort, the cheerleaders couldn’t have done it without the support of the Pep Club. The Pep Club held poster parties to make posters for the halls of the school. The enthusiasm this year shows that Alcester is proud of their Cubs! Above-Pep Club officers-from top-K. Kroger, Pres; K. There was a capacity crowd both nights, as the performers had sold advance tickets. Through hard work and guidance from directors Mrs. Connie Larsen and Mrs. Mary Horst, the musical was successful. Some of the main characters were: Joan Hendricks as Laurie Williams, James Newberg as Curly McClain, Matt Onnen as Will Parker, Robin Embrock as Ado Annie Carnes, Wayne Johnson as Ali Hakim, Jon Leafstedt as Jud Fry, and Rochelle Twedt as Aunt Eller. The story revolved around the life and loves of people from the Oklahoma territory at the turn of the century. This was the First big name musical put on by the Alcester schools, and it was well received by all who attended.
