PPJN Cir AUS MESSAGE .-2 - -,,.-1 TO THE GIRLS AND BOYS OF FORTIER HIGH SCHOOL 1953...1954...l955... Thrice now the Tarpon Staff has asked me to address you via the Yearbook. At this writing I look back on three years, the time our school has functioned as a co-educational institution, and again I feel a warm glow of satisfaction, and experience a deep joy as I review the 'ilearning distance we have come, and the fine achievements that are ours. I realize that these are the result of splendid all around co-operation, the close work between faculty and students, plus our desire and deter- mination to move onward and upward. There is no single yardstick to measure exactly what each of you has achieved here, but I feel confident that your lives have been enriched by the broad program of studies offered at Fortierg your spirit elevated by contact with your teachers who have instructed and encouraged you, your social life widened through friendly relationship with the students. To the SOPHOMORES, who have been on a sounding line this year, as it were, I say- regard- less of the junior High School from which you came, and which, naturally, you fondly remem- ber, I hope you are now Fortierites in the deepest sense of the word. In service and in lofty life purpose may you continue to grow abundantly, for the future of this excellent school depends upon each of you . , . as well as all other Sopho- mores who will come here. To the ,IUNIORS this-your period of orienta- tion is now .fo complete that, as our 1956 candi- dates for graduation I trust sincerely that you will, when you return, adjust yourselves to your new scholastic standing with ease, and dispatch, and pride tempered by that touch of humility which will give greater meaning to your seniority. May you dignity your new role by such ex- emplary conduct that you will be emulated by the undergraduates, for to a large extent our top classmen set the patterns of a school in work, play, behavior, attitudes, citizenship and such. Remember this. To the SENIORS, the 1955 Graduates-Com gratulations! You were our first Sophomore Co-eds, so your student ties the longest and strongest are, no doubt, the hardest to break as, perforce, you leave Fortier this june, The desire for higher learning will speed some of you to college, others will enter the business world, and some, per- chance, will early consider homemaking and family life. All these are commendable, estab- lished fields which offer you opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge you acquired here for greater advancement and success in your future endeavors. Good Luck, Seniors, whatever your choice! To all students, however, - Sophomores, juniors, Seniors-I leave this thought, Remem- ber that for the rest of your lives each one of you will still be a representative of this school. May your loyalty to Fortier and your pride in it never grow less. And whether you are the graduates who are leaving us this year, or those who will be with us again next session, may each of you enjoy a good life to its fullest. May you walk tall-with dignity, with integrity, forever nourish- ing a profound respect for and -an abiding faith in God, your country, and yourself. Sincerely, W' ..-
