P KRENT TEACHER ASSOCIATI0lN The offlcers elected for thxs year were Mrs Glenn Wagner presldent Mrs Raymond Wassmc vlce presldent Nlrs Don Jones and Mrs Dale Flltsch secretarxes Mr Mllton Etzel treasurer The theme of the program for this year was Welfare of the Chlldren Our program commxttee presented some very educational programs centerlng around this toplc We have trled to stress a better understandlng between teachers and parents that through cooperatlon we are able to help our chlldren take our place and bulld a better world The teacher s panel on modem methods of education a speaker on mental health of the child a movle on llfe ln England and European countries the Boy Scouts program and muslc by our school band and vocal department are a few of the features the P T A has enjoyed Our project was to help ln the purchase of a projector for the school We had a Stunt Nlght to help ralse the funds We helped redecorate the school cafeterla and had charge of the athletlc banquet for our boys and glrls We also sponsored the local Boy Scout troop The average attendance at our monthly meetlngs was about 75 The total membershlp for the year was 111 The soclal hour followlng the program has been a good opportunlty for us to be come better acquaxnted wxth each other The ladles who attended the fall and sprlng conference reported an mterestxng time We are growlng ln numbers each year so we are looking forward to blgger and better years ln the future as we work together for the welfare of our children RAN ll RO0STERS 'lhe Band Boosters Club IS ln 1ts second year of organlzatlon We chose thls name because the orgamzatlon IS made up not only of band parents alone but also of other folks who are mterested ln the promotlon of the band Offlcers for thls year were as follows Mrs Dale Halstead President Mrs Dans Newman Treasurer Mrs llarold Johnson Secretary Mrs Clan' Franson ff lnance Char,-man We have held bake sales and an lce cream SOCIHT All were very successful The ICC cream soclal was held on the school lawn with the band gxvmg the concert We served the luncheon for the Llnn County Vocal Festival whlch was held ln March at our school I roceeds are to be used for band umforms SPEECH AND HEARING THERAPY For the past two years Mr Robert Bentz of Cedar Haplds has been conductlng speech and hearlng therapy classes for chlldren so handlcapped ln our communlty Mr Bentz IS one of our travellng teachers spendlng Monday and Thursday afternoons ln our school Thus year Mr Bentz tutored eleven youngsters ranging from primary through seventh grade for perxods varylng from 15 to 25 minutes per student twlce a week These classes were conducted lIldlVldll8lly To teach his students proper speech hablts Mr Bentz used a number of very common tools IDCCHIIVC games nonsense syllables phomcs varlous books a tape recorder a mlrror Durlng class tlme a llstenlng period was fxrst provlded after whlch the student practiced produclng the sounds he had just heard Dlffxcultles ln reproduclng sound properly fall lnto two categorles habltual and organlc Wnth patxent traxnlng Mr Bentz has stimulated Improvement ln the most dlfflcult cases Each year Mr Bentz conducts a heanng test for students ln the thxrd sixth nlnth and twelfth grades Recommendations are then made for proper treatment and seatlng arrangement xn the classroom The objectlves of these therapy classes are to enable every chxld to speak fluently ln the approved manner of our sectlon of the country and to recognlze and correct hearmg handlcaps All of us reahze thls IS the most lmportant for soclal acceptance ln our world today V Y A A ' ' ' : ' . , ' 3 ' .
