exght Admlmstratlon Pubhc School Adm1mstrat1on John Mllne Supermtendent of Publxc Schools came to klbuquerque m 1907 as prmclpal of the old Thxrd Ward School located at Fourth Street and Hazeldme Avenue where he also taught the slxth grade Today the Coronado Crade School occuples thls location In 1909 Mr Mllne became hugh school prmclpal He took a special mterest m publxcatlons and the La Reata fust appeared at thxs txme Two years later Mr Mllne was made superlntendent of schools and has served Albuquerque ln that capaclty smce Durmg hls admmzstratlon the Albuquerque superln tendent has been lnstrumental 1n brmglng about a great many changes ln the publlc school system He has seen the Albuquerque Hlgh School grow from one small buxld m the downtown locatxon at Thxrd Street and Lead Avenue to fxve large structures and several auxlllary buxldmgs at Broadway and Central Avenue Much of what that one early buxldmg served IS now handled ln four Jumor hxgh schools one new clty hxgh school and varlous parochial xnstltutlons Thls year the clty and county pubhc schools have been unlted mto one system The Albuquerque Board of Educatxon now serves thus larger area and directs the work of 796 teachers on the faculty force and 23 521 students enrolled 1n the Albuquerque Pubhc Schools Members of the board are fbelow left to right, R M Elder Mrs Mary Nlcolax D A Macpherson Jr John Mxlne S Y Jackson presldent, and Richard Thorne Mr Elder and Mr Macpherson are graduates of Albuquerque High School 51.
