Xmas Fanlalin 22. 3, Class History Memories? History? -Yes, this class of 1942 has both. These students came to the high school building as sophomores as a result of the establishment of a three- year junior high school. Since that time their achievements have been numerous and varied. This class was well represented in scholarship, athletics, music, social activities. They worked and played with all the vim and vigor they had, putting forth every effort to do the job and do it well. This was all very fine indeed-in fact, it was almost expected of them, but there was yet to come a real testg on December 8 the cry of WAR resounded throughout our nation. How will it affect our young people? How will they react to this emergen- cy? people wondered. The students were on the spotefwhat could they do to help their country? It didn't take them long to recover from the shock and begin to show even the pessimists. They did everything possible to show their patriotism and their willingness to cooperate: conservation, rationing, spending allowances for defense stamps, fewer good times, and more to do---they took all these in their stride. When it came time to receive those diplomas, a little tearfully perhaps, they realized that now they had reached the peak of their capacity to help their country. Looking into the future it was easy to see that some of those who had played heroes in the class plays and on the athletic fields were destined to play that same role in real life. Yes, this class produced true American ctiizens just at the time they were needed and it will long be remembered for its ability to adapt itself to any situation in asensational way. Graduating Class, when this war is over and we have con- quered the enemy, always make use of this tremendous ability and never forget the high ideals taught you at Albia High School.
