dm? 7 7 To the strains ol' Pomp and Circumstance some two hundred and sixty seniors, clad in the traditional caps and gowns, entered the high school auditorium as high school students for the last time. 'I'hey have come a long way since they lirst entered as sophomores in 1946. They have gained three years in age, maybe a lew pounds, and have stored up a vast amount ol' uselul knowledge. Beginning their careers, they elected George Vander- mate, president: William Chase, vice-president: and Mavis Augustine, secretary. At the class party, the big event ol' the year, Geraldine Parks and Robert Dalhen were elected queen and king. Proving themselves a very active as well as talented class, the group presented Spring Dance as the jun- ior class play. They excelled in journalism, drama. music and sports, even pulling the seniors through the creek on Hobo Day. After weeks of work, worry, and fun, they entertained the seniors at their first prom. Robert Dolan, junior class president, worked with Elisabeth Ehrhardt, vice-president: Pauline Hansen, secretary, and Mary Everson, treasurer: to lead the class through their happy days as juniors. At last, the longed-lor goal was reached-they were seniors, the leaders of tl1e school. The senior class l.. I. l.ilja. 'Iihey took part in the all-school play, Tigers' Roar, music, XVPA Ylleek, and sponsored a class party for themselves. They took an active part in the Homecoming lestivities, not only by having Queen -joann Helleksen to inspire them, but also in playing the big game and making Hoats. Uflicers ol' the forty-niners were Richard Botz, pres- ident, Donald Renslow, vice-president: Gloria Fink, secretary, and Elaine Knutson, treasurer. ligil Hovey acted as the class advisor. All through their lives these seniors will remember their days in Albert Lea High School-they can never forget. They will remember the change lrom junior high to senior high, how they were a trille scared, but too proud or just plain terrified to ask directions ol' the upperclassmen. 'l'hey remember as juniors how they realized that the time remaining in Albert Lea was not the ever- lasting six years ol' lielore, but an all loo swilt two years. As seniors the desire to make the last year the very best spurred them on. So successful was the year, they were a little reluctant to leave. Onward and upward they'll go, with their heads in the air, dreaming air castles, and their leet on the ground, realizing these dreams. li ' lb 1 ' ft ' ' . -fr or . f,'d i!l ly 1 irlllllill li QA ,ul-.. b , X :K 2751 53' X tsl ,lhjl ' . e' g, H 1- S r't':'l 'l l' .
