Dedication Ah, what shall 1 be at fifty, Should nature keep me alive, If I find the world so bitter When 1 am but twenty-five? Tennyson The climate of our times — our adolescent years, our college years — has been and continues to be one in which human dignity is stripped away exposing the bareness of man’s existance. In the name of justice and freedom a crescendo of violence is digging at the roots of our national morality. Action is in the form of irrational destruction rather than construction; hysteria rather than sane rationale. Change must come and protests sounded, but the bridge between justice and law must be swept clean of violence and recemented with reason and compassion. To this we dedicate ourselves. The war — the controversy of our times. The late Senator Robert Kennedy said: Still even though we must know as a nation what it is necessary to do, we must also feel as men the anguish of what it is we are doing.” We are not only witness, but parti- cipants in the agony of children who have never known peace. And the heartache be- comes more familiar as we send our young men out to die. To question this we dedicate ourselves. So in the face of the brutality, bitterness, and pain, we maintain our pride in mankind; commit ourselves and dedicate the ALEMBIC PHARMAKON to peace among men. Impossible? But... Perhaps we cannot prevent this world from being a world in which children are tortured. But we can reduce the number of tortured children. And if you don’t help us, who else in the world can help us do this? Albert Camus Lynne K. Cotich Editor-in-Chief
