J '32 virvr 3 get it , l' . s A' , Q OLNIOS HONORS-Every summer, the American Legion Department of Texas sponsors Boyis and Girl,s State, a government workshop. ln June of 573, Jeff Sugarman stayed in Austin, and Lisa Embs traveled to Seguin to find out what democratic govern- ments are all about. The 500 or so high school student representatives organized themselves into cities and counties and actually governed their Staten, Seminars and speakers also contributed to the week-long project, which is designed to develop young citizens' attitudes toward the demo- cratic governing system. OLMOS HONORS-When John Ambler returned from his trip to Free- doms Foundation in September, Hoof Print Associate Editor Jane McConnell described his reactions to the singular experience in a feature published in the newspaper. The story caught the eye of Interscholastic League Press Conference Director Dr. Max Haddick who promptly mailed her a Special Citation for Proficiency, the first eamed by an AHHS journalist in recent years. OLMOS HONORS-Summer for most is swimming in the local pool, hut some Heightsters managed to do a little more with the 773 vacation. Kirt Kinnie, Allison Herder, and John Gilliland went to summer school in a rather tropical location, Hawaii. Karen Hoffman and Martha Spivey were part of an American Institute of Foreign 14 Vp.: Studies tour in Europe, sponsored by Mrs. Rose Ranson. Heather Douglass lived and studied for several months south of the border, while Ann Kauf- man and fnot picturedj Melanie Kaliff, Betsy Landsman, and Alice Ball traveled to Europe with Mr. Johnnie Eng on a People to Peoplew tour.

This helped trigger a fuel crisis which threatened to change our life styles.
