Although the temperature on August 20 registered in the upper 90,s, that day really signalled the beginning of Fall for us, for it ended our three months of freedom and began the 573-374 school year. We chose our classes, teachers, got our books, took a disbelieving walk through the halls . . . had it really been ON A HOT, STICKY SUMMER DAY frightl coaches J im Keener and Ted Masser edge their way through hordes of students waiting in line for class scheduling. For the first time students could pick their schedules as well as their teachers. DESPITE STUDENT COUNCIL'S ffar rightj super- human effort to distribute books later that day, problems fand booksj kept piling up. 12 August 20-here we go again if LOCAL ATTORNEY MS. ROSE SPECTOR fabovej speaks on the responsibilities of 18 year-olds as adults under the new law at a special assembly for juniors and seniors. An all new student handbook was highly publicized, pep rallies became an increasing problem, and Student Council pondered the impeachment of lazy representatives. As usual Spurs were getting ready for their early November tryouts. That preliminary feeling of excite- ment which comes with the beginning of school was slowly wearing off, and we began to dream of the Thanks- giving holidays just around the corner. OLMOS HONORS-In the fall of 73, when Spiro Agnew's taxes seemed to be causing a lot of commotion, Mike Fanning decided to write. a letter to the editors of TIME magazine. Mike found it extremely ironical that one moment, the former Vice-President accusedithe news media of misinter- preting his case, and the next moment called for a press conference at which to declare his innocence. TIME printed the AH seniorls letter in the Sep- tember 30, '73 issue, any future VP's had better watch out for Mike . . . 5 13
