, . Mrs. Eleanor Tuttle Algebra Commercial Arithmetic MATHEMATICS Mathematics provides a foundation for the successful pursuit of either business or professional careers. General math is a first year course which can lead two ways. It can be followed by either commercial math for those with business inter- ests or by algebra for those with more technical interests. First year algebra covers the four fundamental operations with literal and signed numbers, polynomials, formulas, and equations. Second year algebra covers both linear and quadratic eiuations, their solutions and graphs, exponents, roots, radicals, progressions, and the binomial theorem. Plane geometry, w ich generally follows first year algebra, develops concepts of space and logical thinking through the study of the prop- erties, measurements, and relations of lines, angles and surfaces of lane figures. Solid geometry is a continuation of plane geometry into three dimensional concepts. Trigonometry deals with functions of angles and solutions of triangles. Me- chanical drawing develops the ability to see clearly and express mental images with logic, accuracy and neatness. It helps the student to be self-reliant, thorough and persistent. Mr. David H.
