The foremost aim of the art department is to encourage creative expression in everyday occurrences. The course introduces painting, sculpture, ceramics, textile design, and the techniques of painting as related to trends in contemporary art. The Music department is composed of the vocal groups and the bands. The Vocal department builds an appreciation of good music and teaches the fundamentals of music theory, sight reading, tone production, interpretation, and ensemble singing. The Band stresses marching, sight reading, and concert playing, with some members composing the Swing Band. Through participation with a large group, the individual learns to co-operate with and to appreciate his fellow students as well as music. A high type of musical literature is performed by the concert band. Speech creates ease in formal and extemporaneous expression and organized thinking. One act plays, contests, debates, and the Senior Play are among the different highlights of the four year course. Mr. Richard H.
