E THE sorrroMoRE cLAss The sophomore class was headed this year by Bobby Mellard, with advisory presidents, Mary Lou Baskett, Bobby Bushick, Tom Allen, Mary Pierce, and Iohn Whitesides assisting him. Entering whole-heartedly into the competitive spirit in high school, the various soph advisories came through with several Wins. Lighthouse's advisory Won the Hoof Print Subscription Contest with an ice-cream party as their reward. Of the five advisories, Lighthouse, Grant, Mitchell, and Brigham won a free page of snapshots in the annual by having all of their pictures taken for The Olmos. The sophomore class was well represented in the Latin Club by Billy Herpel as boy consul and Mary Falk as pro-consul. Pete Stovall held the position of president in the Band. Another sophomore, Malcolm McDaniel, an all-round athlete, did the class proud by lettering in both A team football and basketball. Phil Sheridan, a Lighthouse inhabitant, started off with a bang by being chosen for cheer leader, a rarity for a sophomore boy, and later on earned the title of Most Representative Sophomore Boy. Verna Lou Bissett won the companion honor of Most Representative Sophomore Girl. Clayborne Kruckemeyer and Lily Mae Nagel represented Heights in County Declamation, both winning third place: and Beverly Bruff was one of our spelling team, which placed fourth. Billy Mack Hansard, a Brigham resident, was a member of the Winning debate team of the county. Yes, a truly eventful year for a green sophomore class!
