History and Prophecy On a bright day in September of 1957, a group of excited students enteredan entirely new world. This world was called High School. Inthis new world we started at the bottom as Freshmen. It was like going up steps. You start at the bottom and make your way up, up, until you reach the top. We really started at the bottom! We were about the lowest creatures in Alamance High. We didn't mind though, we had a lot of fun. With the help of Mrs., Ross, Mr . Payne tour homeroom teachersj and our new principal, Mr. Cromer, we made our way up to the second step. After a trying year and a short summer we were back in school as Sophomores . Mrs. Nichols, our h o m e r o o m teacher, backed us in everything we did. The selling of candy and magazines increased the amount in our treasury greatly. We made more money in our sophomore year than almost any other class has in the history of Alamance. Another year passed and we moved up another step. We became Juniors. We had many things to do and a short time to do them in. We made more money for our treasury with the help of Mrs. Farrell. Early in the year we ordered our class rings. Every- one agreed on ruby. On Thursday, February 5, 1959, we finally got those beautiful rings. For weeks we walked around holding our hands out. In March we started making plans for the Junior -Senior Banquet. After much hard work we completed our plans and decorations. On April 4, 1959, at the Alamanc e Oriental Garden a banquet was held in honor of the Seniors of 1959. Everyone had a grand time. Another summer passed, we were back in school again. At last we reached that top step. Now we are Seniors, but not for long. We have done a great many things this year. There were the hard times trying to get the TOM-A-HAWK out on time, putting on a senior play, and pre- paring for our long-awaited senior trip to New York and Washington. We couldn't have done all these things without the help of Mrs. Hicks, our advisor, and our new principal, Mr. Billings. Now it is almost time for gradu- ation. It seems almost impossibleg onlyfour short years ago we started up the steps. Today we are at the top. It is a happy time but also a sad time. We surely hate to leave our dear old Alamance. With all the happy and thrilling mo- ments of high school life left behind, the Seniors of the Class of 1960 sadly depart. Beginning now a life of our own, we set out with hopeful hearts to fulfill a certain goal in life. We will become the leaders in the grow- ing society of our great nation, we will build the basis for a more pros- perous future, andwill help to create peace and good will among all people. Yes, we are the ones who will make this world a better and safer one in which to live. We are the leaders of tomorrow. We bid you all farewell and good luck.
