CURRICULUM EXPANSION DEANS hAlpha and Omega The summer of 1940 marked the beginning of a new area of study leading to a Master of Education degree with academic concentration in the major or minor fields of undergraduate study. DR. VATIEL E. DANIEL was first graduate clean in 1943 serving for eighteen years in this capacity and Professor of Sociology until his re- tirement June 1961. DR. ROBERT C. HATCH, was the last dean 1961-62. Within this year he became acting president. He had been on the graduate faculty in sum- mer and regular year sessions as Prnfessor of Education- al Administration, prior to his deanship, Hence it is reallyr alpha and omega in the deanship. MRS. ALICE F. RACLAND served as secretary in charge of Graduate records. GRADUATE DIVISION l940 The female side of the '46 M.Ed. graduates, who were first summer students in '43 the year of the Conferring of the first M.Ed. degree on 8 candidates. Among those associated with the Investigation Project iThesis1 were: DR. FRANK A. DE COSTA, Professor nf Education Harm- er director of student teaching, Coordinatnr of activities leading to the publication nf PLANNING THE INVESTIGATION ; Giving critical reading and correction assistance to him were Dr. Archie Lacey. Mrs. Thelma Austin Rice, and Dr. Ralph J. Bry- Stm. Miss Frances Pnllard wmte the major portion of abstracting related Iiterature. DR. REVA WHITE ALLMAN, Professor of Education. and Educational Research, development of thesis pmject from beginning to the end; DH. ZELIA S. EVANS, Pm- fessor of Education, Cnnrdinator of Reading Investigations in Academic Areas. DR. THOEDORE A. LOVE, Professor of Mathematics Coordinatur of Research Projects.
