$3 1937 SUMMER QUARTER 1'? THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL The senior high school is a part of the laboratory school setup of the institution as a teacher-training college. However, the summer quarter has offered the opportunity for an appreciable number of teachers-in-service to complete their high school work and thus qualify properly for credit work in the junior college divisian. Each summer, about fifty percent of the graduating class is composed of these teachers-in-service while the remain- ing fifty per cent is drawn from those students of the regular year who need the summer quarter to complete their work in contrast to the high school classes of the Spring Quarter that are almost wholly regular students who have not had teaching experience. While be- ginning teachers must complete the junior college course before qualifying for their teach- ing certificate on the basis of professional study, encouragement is given those teachers- in-service who have taught at least five years on an Alabama certificate by granting them the First Grade Elementary Certificate upon their graduation from this senior high school.
