During our Sophomore year, January of 1964, work was begun on the new Classroom- Administrative building. A ground breaking ceremony was held January 13, with the president of the college. Dr. Levi Watkins shoveling the first spade of dirt. Thereby officially beginning the construction of the new Alabama State College, Mobile Center. Although the Sophomore Class of 1963-64 will not be able to enjoy the facilities of the new building, we are very proud to know that construction of the building was be- gun during our time here. Now, graduation time draws nigh bringing with it mixed feelings. We, the members of the Sophomore Class, will never forget oiu- two years at the Mobile Center of Alabama State College for it was here that we received the foundations for our future. Marilyn A. C) as,s 7 s ( orL y The Sophomore Class of 1963-64 entered the Alabama State College Branch in the fall of 1962 all ready and anxious to enter upon college heights. Our first week here was one filled with excitement; for it began our Orientation period. As a part of Orientation the Freshman and the Sophomore Classes were enter- tained at a Get Acquainted Social, sponsored by the Student Organization. We entered this period as inexperienced Crabs and ended as full fledged members of the Alabama State College. After Orientation we settled down to begin college life. We elected officers to lead our Freshman Class for the 1963-64 term. They were: President, Nicholas L. Antone; Vice-President, William James; Recording Secretary, Fannie Brooks; Financial Secretary, Theresa Carraway; Treasurer, Thomas Figures; and Business Manager, Alfred Stokes. During our Freshman year we had an active part in many activities. We had six Freshmen on the Basketball Team; Miss Varsity, Yvonne Joyner; Betty Montgomery represented the Mobile Branch at the Cramton Bowl game at Montgomery; and many other activities were greatly filled with Freshman participants. Other events that stood out during our Freshman year were: The Christmas Party, which was sponsored by the Freshman Class, President ' s Ball, Game Nighu, Spring Social, and the Spring Picnic. Our Freshman year soon ended and we reached another rung on the college ladder in September of 1963. We then enrolled as Sophomores. We elected to lead the Sophomore Class of 1963-64 the following: President, Thomas Figures; Vice-President, Kiah Edwards; Recording Secretary, Fannie Brooks; Financial Secretary, Daisy Roberts; Treasurer, Yvonne Joyner; and Business Manager, Willian James.
