V 4 rf - 'fs - 1 Qu W 'r ,fa TORPEDO R211 -...,.t,,is'DA'A8 The basketball season opened on the Akron floor when Ireton gave us a hard battle ending with the score in our favor 9-12. Despite XVestfield's two by four gym the Akron team played a winning game, 19-20. The clever Merrill team came over to show their talent at basket tossing. They displayed some hidden talents at the game, but not enough. At the final whistle the score stood in our favor, 23-11. The return game with Ireton was played on their floor, january 18. They were out to revenge their first defeat and meant to do it either by fair means or foul, it seems they had to choose the latter. The end came with a score at 10-11 in their favor. January 25, the Akron quintet squeezed themselves onto Liberty's floor and tried to do justice to the game in close quarters. The outcome was that we squeezed Liber- ty out with the score, 9-11 in our favor. LeMars met the Akron team on their home floor. But in spite of Akron's hard fighting l.eMars added another game to their credit with a score of 26-10. On February 1 Liberty 'came to revenge their defeat, and they did a very thorough job of it. VVhen the referee blew his whistle for the last time the score stood 25-5 in their favor. Westfielcl came to Akron to try to win a game of bas- ket ball, but in that they were not successful as the final score stood 9-34 in our favor. Merrill also came to revenge a victory, which they did very nicely. The game was interesting and good play- ing and sportsmanship featured the game. The final score was 25-14, we receiving the short end. The basketball men who are entitled to monograms are: Cummins, Cross, R. Hauck, I. Hammer, R. Klauer. THE TOURNAMENT At the Morningside Tournament Akron was pared to meet Rolfeg we beat them by a small margin. In the next drawing we got paired off with Sheldon but lost to them with the score of 18 to 10. At the District Tournament held at the Sioux City High School Akron drew Sergeants Bluffs. The teams were well matched, but Akron came out on the short end of the score after an extra five minutes of hard play, the final score being 23-20. JVM. ?.MxM3l xVA '-.W WT1IAE A
