1'A0V f ! f'T 15.4 T ORPE D0 Q PU l LOOKING INTO THE CRYSTAL There appears a slight mistg it gradually grows darker. Something seems to be darting across the sphere. It is everywhere at once. It upsets everything else. Upon looking closer it reveals itself: Donald Cross, ath- letic coach, dictator of sports, Ruble Iowa. Far up the street a resturant, Alma Anderson and Mable Kjose, pro- prietors, home made pastry. Next door is the office of the VVeekly Disturber, Bartley Ogden, editor. Above the office a beauty parlor, Mlle. Desia VVallin, proprietress. Cliart has a real permanent wave.j ln the same building, that terrific brunette stenog, Caryl McCorkle, the terror of many a business man's wife. g A little farther down the street, Gerald Smith, commercial operator. CgSlasher of many a concert.j The scene shifts to a dark overcrowded district of tenement and board- ing houses. Looking into the window of the upper story the living Iidgar Allen Poe sits in the form of Harold Clark, a genius, struggling with his art and five cats CPoe used the family cat for a foot warmerj. This scene fades, Iowa City hoves into view, Richard Klauer has at last realized his life's ambition-college-after patiently teaching for the past fifteen years. Also, Bessie Bennett is a modest principal of one of the city's schools. Bobbed hair intact, Dorothy johnson, fast star in the All State basketball team, now instructor in girl's athletics, University of Iowa. Hilda Hoschler, Iowa City's heart smashing nurse. Bad business except for Dick Hauck, furniture dealer and undertaker. On the beach, a vast expanse of water, Spike Brown and Spuds An- derson, life savers, My Hero, Oh Boys. The Great Out Doors: Peg Burke, foreman on the ranch of Runt Ross, a three powder-puff woman and a two gun man. Back to habitation, Genevieve Christenson has successfully run a coun- try school without the demerit system. Somewhere this side of the Rockiesg Ruth Brown, authoress of the world famous Roughing It on Mars is making coffee over an open fire on the plains of Canada. Pierpont Morgan's bankg Edith Johnson has won, through the co-operation of VV. I.. Conder, world renowned agriculturist, and is depositing the 310,000 cash prize offered by the Department of the Interior for answering the question, Why do you feed beef cattle ? Again the scene shifts backs to little old Akron and what have we here? An addition to the original Dahl store conducted by the honorable Norman, minety stories have made almost a skyscraper. But, listen, Doc Fletcher has made his air castles a reality, he has constructed the City above the Clouds. 1975. -Ruth Brown.
