She decides that she must be a direct descendant of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. So she and her best friend, Bernadine Smith write to a firm that looks up family trees. The reply is mistaken- ly intercepted by Mr. Maxwell, who is shocked to learn that among his ancestors have been Jack the Ripper, Sarah the Sparrow, who exterminated 13 husbands, and low-brow twosome named Lester the Leach and Stern Face Stella. It also added that the MENTAL CHANGE comes at about the age fourty. Pop is now imagining everything. To top it off, Wilbur and pal Hercules decide to be magicians and they hook strings on the furniture to control t hem from the closet. Pop walks in and sees the furniture moving and imagines he is losing his mind. When Wilbur finds out about his ancestors, he and Hercules hold a seance to try to talk to them. Gertrude and Louie, a couple of not-too-bright robbers, are discovered in the closet and are proclaimed, by the boys, to be the family skeletons, Lester the Leach and Stern Face Stella. The whole story ends happily, with the robbers in jail and everyone has his right mind again.
