n, Commander M. Alan Groff was born in Flint, Michi- gan on June 18, 1945. He was commissioned in February, 19 69 from the Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport. Rhode Island after graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineer- ing from Michigan Technological University in 1968. Commander Groff ' s assignments include: Electron- ics Material Officer, USS MERCER(APB-39); First Lieutenant Supply Officer USS SURFBIRD(ADG- 383); Missile Battery Control Officer, USS BAIN- BRIDGE(DLGN-25) Weapons Officer. USS ROBI- S0N(DDG-12) and Anti-Air Warfare Officer. Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. Commander Groff ' s decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V , Combat Action Ribbon and Presi- dential Unit Citation in addition to service and cam- paign medals.
