Lowell Lindsay Ted Greer Barb Guenther Jane Cronenwett Pat Petit Jan Onan Mrs. Carol Dennis 2 Dedication Mr. Joseph Hamilton has been a teacher here at Airport for 12 years. In addition to being an excellent teacher he is a winning football coach. The Reserve team had a won- derful season by remaining undefeated. Mr. Hamilton is the Athletic Director here at Airport and also President of the Athletic Directors in the Huron League. Few students realize the work, time, and effort he pruts into the co-or- dinating of the sports. Because of all these things and more, we would like to show our appreciation toward Mr. Hamilton by this dedication. Mr. Robert Drama Price teaches Drama I, Drama II, and Speech and Debate here at Airport. Mr. Price also directs both the junior and senior class plays. Through Mr. Price the students also get drama assemblies and talent shows. He is advisor to both the Drama and Pep clubs. Mr. Price devotes his personal time and effort to all of his activities. Because of this, the 1973-74 Beacon Staff would like to show our appreciation by this dedication. 3 - V fVr4f ? .vw .'Hrrv' .t ‘ 2 w v _ , • ■ ' “ « ., • , ■ ’ - - . ' F'-r- IT KS KV.irS? ■— A NEW DAY DAWNS' The past is but the beginning of a beginning, And all is and has been is but the twilight of dawn A day will come when beings who are now latent in our thoughts and hidden in our loins shall stand upon this earth as one stands upon a footstool, And shall laugh and reach out their hands amid the stars. H C. Wells t A NEW DAY DAWNS The sun rises in the morning to present the world a new day. Each time the sun rises the day is different because of the challenges and opportunities that life will bring. One of the most difficult things that we face will be graduation which takes us away from our protected world at high school where someone tells us what to do and when to do it. After we leave the school there still may be someone telling us what to do, but it will be entirely up to us to what's got to be done. “We finally made it, isn't quite the expression to use because we have just started to live the rest of our lives. — Rick Vasquez % 12 Mr. Kohn — “Well, class, what's new? Sue was Chosen by her fellow classmates to repre- sent the school as Miss Airport for the 1973-74 school year. She has been an active member of Stu- dent Council, Pep Club, Ushers Club, class officer, and a member of National Honor Society. She plans to attend Grand Rapids Bible College next year. 26 Miss D.A.R. I believe a good citizen is one who maintains that individual liberties are the concrete foundations of our republican government.'' Respectable citizens do not require 4.0 averages or millions of dollars, but need only a few basic qualities such as belief in God, true concern for others, courte- sy and respect for others. Laurie Hollister received the honor of being chosen for the Miss D.A.R. Award. This award is given an- nually by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Laurie has been active throughout the last four years in Student Council, cheerleading, girls athletics, dra- ma, and in class activities. To me, citizenship is the right we have to act as an individual for our own well-being and for the good of the community. A good citizen strives to improve himself and in doing so improves the quality of his society. Good citizenship involves assuming responsi- bilities and carrying out the duties these responsibili- ties demand as a member of a family, school, and community. Mr. Citizenship Timothy Webster was elected by his fellow classmates and teachers to be Mr. Citizenship for the Senior Class of 1974. Tim has been a real asset to our school and especially to our sports teams during the past few years. He par- ticipated in cross country in the ninth and tenth grades, varsity basketball during the past two years, golf in the twelfth grade, and varsity baseball in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades. This includes the State Championship Baseball Team of 1972, which Tim contributed to by playing shortstop. Valedictorian The valedictorian for the 1973-74 school year is Jane Cronenwett. She has maintained her 3.942 average for the past four years. She has been active in the 4-H Club nine years. Among her accomplish- ments are the Key Club Award and the Citizen Short Cause Award from which she received a trip to Washington D.C. She is the Pho- tography Club President, a member of the BEACON staff. National Honor Society, Future Teacher's Club, Pep Club, and she has been a cheerleader, the Junior Class Treasurer, and a member of Student Council. She has been in the Varsity Band for four years and in the Stage and Pep Bands. Jane was also in Monroe County Honor Band during her sophomore, junior, and senior years. Jane plans to attend Monroe Community College and major in art. ?8 Mark Chapman 3.857 April Wendling 3.848 Thirteen receive top ten positions Gary Breitner 3.843 4 A I am that which began; Out of me the years roll; Out of me God and man; I am equal and whole; God changes, and man, and the form of them bodily; I am the soul. Phone: CH 1-8400 117 THE TEN PILLARS OF ECONOMIC WISDOM 1. Nothing in our material world can come from nowhere or go nowhere, nor can it be free: everything in our eco- nomic life has a source, a destination and a cost that must be paid. 2. Government is never a source of goods. Everything pro- duced is produced by the people, and everything that government gives to the people, it must first take from the people. 3. The only valuable money that government has to spend is that money taxed or borrowed out of the people's earn- ings. When government decides to spend more than it has thus received, that extra unearned money is created out of thin air, through the banks, and, when spent, takes on value only by reducing the value of all money, savings and insurance. 4. In our modern exchange economy, all payroll and em- ployment come from customers, and the only worthwhile job security is customer security; if there are no customers, there are no customers, there can be no pay- roll and no jobs. 5. Customer security can be achieved by the worker only when he cooperates with management in doing the things that win and hold customers. Job security, therefore, is a partnership problem that can be solved only in a spirit of understanding and cooperation. 6. Because wages are the principal cost of everything, wide- spread wage increases, without corresponding increases in production, simply increase the cost of everybody's living. 7. The greatest good for the greatest number means, in its material sense, the greatest goods for the greatest number which, in turn, means the greatest productivity per worker. 8. All productivity is based on three factors: 1) natural re- sources, whose form, place and condition are charged by the expenditure of 2) human energy (both muscular and mental), with the aid of 3) tools. 9. Tools are the only one of these three factors that man can increase without limit, and tools come into being in a free society only when there is a reward for the temporary self- denial that people must practice in order to channel part of their earnings away from purchases that produce im- mediate comfort and pleasure, and into new tools of pro- duction. Proper payment for the use of tools is essential to their creation. 10. The productivity of the tools — that is, the efficiency of the human energy applied in connection with their use — has always been highest in a competitive society in which the economic decisions are made by millions of progress- seeking individuals, rather than in a state-planned society in which those decisions are made by a handful of all- powerful people, regardless of how well-meaning, unsel- fish, sincere and intelligent those people may be.
