i ls Miss Aquila Relevant? Two Opinions I 1. 2. 3. I 4.85. Rocky Rietkovich served as the master of ceremonies. Steve Bassett, Judy Hodgens, and Worth Lineberry served as judges. Mrs. Maddox and Mrs. Bassett provided the background music. Mike Gregory and Ricky Lanier provided music during the intermission. Contest Provides Interest This question can be answered with another Relevant to what? To give an answer, we will say yes , it is relevan to the school and student body. Beside coming tl school daily to study certain subjects and eventuall' graduate, there should be many activities to maki attending school more interesting and challenging. We at Airport High are fortunate to have many o these activities offered to us and one of course thi Miss Aquila Contest. This is a competion contest fo the female student body. But does every girl have 4 chance to get into the contest? Yes she does. To star with, any girl can place or have her named placed on 2 list which is sent to her homeroom. The list is ther narrowed down to the largest number of nomination: in each grade. Through the process of elimination which is carried out by the voting of students 20 girl: are chosen from each grade to attend the Miss Aquila Contest. On the eve of the event a panel of judge: select five finalists from each grade and out of these five girls one is chosen Miss Aqula. By girls competing for Miss Aquila and the stu dent body casting their votes for their favorite contest tant, everybody is involved in an activity which make: school a little more interesting. The opinion of the writer of this article is that ex- tra activities and competions such as the Miss Aquila Contest, among students, makes attending school 2 little more pleasant and worthwhile. Doesn't Make Sense By Larry Hoffman The Miss Aquila Contest is neither relevant tc Airport High or to the students who participate. The first and most obvious complaint that is voic- ed is by the girls who didn't make it. Around the cami pus during voting time you can't go too far withou, hearing I just knew I wouldn't make it. I'm just noi POPULAR enough if you know what I mean. Or you might hear, t'It's all a plot against me! Those peopl don't even count votes, they just sit around in som closet and name whom ever they want. I mean, ho else could I lose? I Although such attitudes are either false or sd widely paranoid that they don't make sense' nevertheless there are some legitimate complaints One such complaint comes from the seniors. It woulc seem that with so many students graduating early around twenty of the Miss Senior contestants were sophomores last year. Even with putting all the complaints aside, the 'Miss Aquila Contest doesn't make too much sense Why should so many people get upset? Do we really need to pick the most beautiful, wonderful, and bes' girl of Airport High? I don't know about you, but a group of girls standing in front of a raving mob just doesn't seem right. Of course I can live with the con- test, l've never seen one and I don't expect I ever will But doesn't it seem that electing the girl-without regard to looks-who has during her four years ol school done the most for Airport as Miss Aquila in- stead ofthe way the contest is run now be more ap- propriate?
