Social Studies Historical study encompasses all records of man,s activ- ity. It includes the story of the political experience of a people in its internal and external phases. It also surveys the soeial and economic aspects of life. Geography pro- vides an understanding of the parts of the world, their inhabitants and resources. With the many controversial topics raised in this department, these teachers bear a tremendous responsibility. They must present the factual side of the subject, while stressing theme and noting cause and effect. They also indulge in heated debate over various issues. Thus the history class gives the individual the chance to express his views. His eventual recognition of the influence of environment and past events on the present and future give history and geography their outstanding place in any curriculum.
