Sponsored by the University of California at Los Angeles, the AHS English Department was invited to participate in this new experimental program. In service work- shops on behavioral objectives and indi- vidualized instruction in conjunction with Project PROBE were conducted and definite positive results were envisioned by the English Department members. 222 Current Events, World AmliFS, Guest Speakers Interested students surround Mike Eng as he shows them souvenirs from North Vietnam. 'k e-- To motivate student interest in the political field, U.S. Senate Candidate, Neil Abercrombie, Gubernatorial Candidate, Samuel Kingg Representative Mits Uechi, and other election participants were in- vited to speak about Election '70. Students were also fascinated by the experiences related by Murry Engle, Star Bulletin reporter, and Michael Eng, a University of Hawaii graduate student who was Hawaii's NSA delegate to North Vietnam. Eager students voluntarily participated in the Voice of Democracy Contest, the United Nations Contest, and the Law Day Contest. Activities planned by the Social Studies Department included various noon hour activities, political rallies, a field trip to the State Capitol to observe the legislators in action, and an educational excursion to see the epic film, Tora!
