Under the advisorship of Mr. Tom Saito the purpose of the AHS Elec- tromcs Club was to promote interest in the field of electronics To fulfill this major objective the club scheduled field trips relating to their field. Its purpose is to encourage fellowship and competitive spirit among math students. Each month throughout the school year, ten students engage in interschool competition. Subjects range from Basic Math through Calculus. The Math League is under the joint advisorship of Mr. George Watanabe, Mr. Carl Juan, and Mr. Raymond Nelson. The Aiea Math League is a part of the Oahu Math League, which includes 14 public and private schools.

FH Throughout the year the Future Homemakers of America participated in many of the activities sponsored by the American Cancer Society. They also had fun participating in the Campus Cleanup, going on picnics, overnights, socials, and a few money making projects. In April two delegates were sent to Kauai to represent the Aiea High School Chapter at the State Confer- ence. ln February they had fun get- ting aquainted with the other chapter members at the Island Conference which was held at the Queen Kapio- lani Hotel. A banquet held at the end of the year highlighted a most joyful and exciting year for the FHA. Future Homemakers Future Teachers of America Exploring and learning more about future careers in the teaching profession was the ideal purpose of the organization called Future Teachers of America. Some of the many activities were the annual state-wide convention on the island of Hawaii, the Oahu Convention at Kamehameha High School, and visita- tion to the University of Hawaii and Leeward Community College. Various workshops on teaching with guest speak- ers, actual classroom experiences as teachers' aides, and serving as tutors at Alvah A. Scott Elementary School were other activities which involved the FTA. Exhilarating Competition Creates Diversity 1 rr i Chess Club Under the advisoiship of Mr. Charles Esperas, the Chess Club was organized to promote interest in the game of Chess among the students of Aiea High School. The club organized games after school for all interested students and also encouraged its mem- bers to participate in the various ci.fss tournaments throughout the state. The basic objective of this club was to further the skills in concentration, patience and chess strategy which are the necessary ingredients for a good chess player. o. To motivate selected students in seeking higher education and applying their talents to maximum use were the main objectives ot' Hawaii Upward Bound. Activities such as the Christmas Recall and the Easter Recall were .carried out where by Hawaii Upward Bound students from through- out thc state gathered together for a com- bined academic and social activity. The Re- calls proved to be very successful. Hawaii Upward Bound assisted students in completing plans to post secondary training by giving-them the knowledge and basic skills needed to achieve a pre-college preparatory program.
