LANGUAGES The departments of classical and modern languages offer a wide variety of courses designed to acquaint the stu- dent with the literature and life of peoples of other countries, both in times past and in times present. The members of these departments recognize the neces- sity of being familiar with the thought and customs in countries other than our own, if we would live wisely and well in a world which by virtue of scientific progress is ever decreasing in size. Classroom instruction in these depart- ments is supplemented by language clubs, which furnish an opportunity for more informal discussions on topics of interest; by record classes, which make for pro- ficiency in speaking languages, and by the instructive and delightful language tables in the dining room. ore potato chip won ' t hurt.
