f F A graduate of the U. S, Naval Academy in 1955, LCDR. Gardner has served at sea in gunnery billets aboard the destroyer U.S.S. HOOKS 1139-3045 and the carrier U.S.S. Boxer QCVS-217. He assumed command' of the U.S.S. Chowanoc QATF-1005 on 29 June 1963. LCDR. Gardner went to Chowanoc from U10 L'.S. ELLIS , A native of San Francisco, was commissioned as an EI1SigI1 in 1945 upon graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy- He has served in a wide variety of billets in the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets, including duty on U,S,S, HAWKINS QDD-8735, U.S.S. WHITEWOOD QAG-1291, U.S.S. FITCH QDMS-255, U.S.S. MIDWAY QCVA-411, U.S.S. TWINING QDD-5405 and on the Staff of Commander Cruiser - De- stroyer Division Four. He has also had duty in Navy Special Weapons Unit 471 and in the Fleet Operations Division of the Office of the Chief of Naval operations. He was Commanding Officer of U.S.S.WASHTENAW COUNTY QLST-11667 from 1960 to 1962. 1' Commander ELLIS is married to the former Miss Lucille Burchell of San Francisco. The couple have four childreng Joy - 16, Mark - 15, Wayne-14, and Larry 7, They Currently reside in San Die g0, California. Prior to reporting 120 U-S-S- AGERHOLM QDD-8261, Commander ELLIS served on the Joint Staff ofthe Commander, United States Taiwan Defense Command, from September 1962 to Februarl' 1965' During his tour of duty on Taiwan, Commander ELLIS and his family resided in Tien Mou, He has been in commanT10f U.S.S. AGERHOLM since 30 March 1965.
