Tomorrows dreams of long ago Are wliat we live today. And all our iiR'inories are tliooghts yesterday. Tlic class of 1980 rose to be natural born stars from day one of being sophomores to the special day of being recognized as seniors, (wow did that day feel great!) To start off with the hardest tiling possible, we had to muddle through our sophomore year (what a goal!) we all waited excitedly for activity periods where some of us could catch up on our seemingly endless homework while the rest of us caught up on our social lives. Our rallies didn't seem as exciting to us as they did to the rest of the school, but slowly we learned. Some of us added a little touch of our talents to help out in extracurricular activities. The band and colorguard won first place in the Columbus Day parade and second place in parade in Philadelphia. An outstanding job was done by the Chorale in the Christmas Fantasy”, (it made us all feel like we were little kids again.) The sports for that year rose to new heights, with the exception of the loss of the West Side game. We knew we'd beat ’em from then on (step aside West Side, here come the rowdie Brownies.) Most outstanding was the success of the hockey team gaining the Western Mass, title. That was enough excitement for everybody, but high school was still to prove itself to be the “top.” Those fabulous, witty mimes; Stromberg and Cooper showed us a collection of enchanting skits that everyone enjoyed. The Marine Band made us feel great pride. Career Day was very informative and started us all thinking about our futures, (which seemed so terrifying.) Our first dance was a treasured experience with the excellent sounds of Tymc”, (some of us wished the time wasn’t going by so quickly.) Our great success was due to our fantastic officers; President; Donna Shoemaker; Vice President, Patti DeCosmo, Secretary, Dina Catti; Treasurer, Maria Cavallo; and our sophomore advisor, Mr. White. The biggest decision of the year was to pick out our class ring. Choosing the special one was very tormenting, but after a lot of time and concentration, the orders were sent in. The days were going by too quickly to even notice and soon we faced the sad day when “our seniors were leaving. Inside we felt something very tender. It must have been a point added to our stars because we were now Juniors. • Juniors . As we became juniors, our heads were held high and we glowed brightly just as the stars we were all becoming. The year was starting off in a very hectie way with the new 7 day schedule that had no activity periods, (what was to happen to our social lives?) This schedule caused a great many hassles. Thank goodness for the fantastic team work of our officers: President, Fred Withee; Vice-President, Patti DeCosmo; Secretary, Dina Catti; Treasurer, Maria Cavallo; and our junior class advisor Mrs. Hamilton; we made it through our year happily and proudly. They did an exceptional job with class activities, especially dances. The Disco was enough to make everybody want to move. Because of the popularity of Disco, a Disco sock hop was held. This proved that Agawam High was number one when it comes to entertainment, and the turn out was extraordinary. Everybody had the greatest time. Unfortunately, Saturday morning rolled around and we had to force ourselves out of bed and sleepwalk (or drive) to the school for our PSAT’s. We were glad to get that off our minds. Of course, there were a lot of other activities that everyone looked forward to, the prom was the “Main Event” everyone waited for. It was the first time we could attend one without having to Ik- taken by an upperclassman. It was a beautifully enchanting evening. Then there were the Hallies, which were always fun to attend. The cheerleaders put on great shows and the band added the music to get everyone psyched. It was about time all of us learned what our mouths were for. Nobody’s ever seen so many young adults acting so crazy until they’ve seen the class of 1980. Our school sports had risen to the top again with the spotlight shining brightly as our football team pulverized West Side 42-6, (that day we all had something to be thankful for.) The Mirror strutted it’s stuff’ when it won the award for the best school newspaper in the area. (Congratulations!). It seemed impossible that we were ever going to see our class rings, but we were so occupied, that the time Hew by. All the rings looked so good on our fingers, (it takes a star’s hand to make it look fantastic.) W'e all flashed our hands around in everyone’s faces to show we were important, (we were juniors.) Our junior days seemed so few and passed quickly. We all realized it when the seniors left and we watched some of our very close friends graduate. The tears fell like leaky faucets because we were going to miss them and we knew we were the next ones to leave. But the tears were also for joy because we knew next year was going to Ik the most important year of our lives and as stars, we would make it our best performance. k 19 0 0 0 Vkbi Ifhe SHain This is the year the stars shine bright, (everybody put on your sunglasses!) We had been looking forward to this year all our lives and we weren’t going to let it pass by without making ourselves famous. We had a fantastic crew behind stage putting our act together for the year: President, Vin Cingras; Vice-President, Sue Garvin; Secretary, Dina Oatti; Treasurer, Maria Cavallo; and our senior class advisor, Mrs. Hamilton. Our first act was a magazine drive to help us pay our dues. The results weren’t as big as expected, but were fairly good. We also started off the year with many fantastic dances. We enjoyed ourselves very much and couldn’t wait for the next one. The band and color guard added some class to our senior year, and won first place in the Columbus Day Parade and the competition in Lowell, (that’s the way to go!) The football team missed the chance for the Western Mass, title bv losing at Holyoke. The rallies were the best of all our years. We found ourselves sitting under the giant letters spelling SENIORS!” As stars, we deserved that title, (it felt great!) We showed those underclassmen what the real meaning of senior was. As seniors, we had many tough decisions. We had to go through those grueling SAT’s and hope and pray we did well so our results would look superb on our college and scholarship applications. The difficult part was trying to figure out what college we wanted to go to and what scholarships we could apply for. The next thing we had to do was hope and pray for good test scores. Just as the decade changed from the seventies to the eighties, there were many changes in our school. As we walked down the hall and looked around, what used to be windows was now a brick wall! The whole school was being renovated. Because of all the commotion over rebuilding, the boilers were never connected and unexpected cold days came. That’s when we really knew what Eskimos felt like! We had to learn how to write wearing mittens. After a lot of publicity, something was done and we could then walk around dressed normally. The thing that was really hard to adjust to, was the lack of a homeroom period. We all felt so lost without it. I think we never did get used to it. Of course, as stars we had to have the comeljack of the Winter Olympics. That was one fantastic show and the stars were the best i as usual.) I think the highlight that we all waited for was the Kid Party. That had to Ik the most enjoyable night of our year. This was the only time we could go somewhere as ourselves without wearing disguises so that nobody would recognize us. One thing that really had us worried was that we almost lost Max-Ed. That is one privilege stars should liave, and the school committee finally realized it. The days are Hying by too quickly and we all realize graduation will be here soon. The night will Ik filled with showers of tears and love. That will Ik our last performance together and we’ll make it so unique everyone will want an encore. Watch out world, here come the stars of 19S0 from Agawam High School. We Love You! Hie class of 1981 began their junior year with great enthusiasm, with the feeling no longer of being timid soph- omores, hut now having a sense of security. President, Mike Knight; Vice president, Ix ri Acosta; secre- tary, Shirley Donatini; and treasurer, Rosemarie DeStefano took no time in getting their class settled and moving on its way. They were able to hold successful money raisers such as dances and other activities. Mrs. Hamilton, their advisor, helped to guide them in the right direction, and they were able to begin the terror of collecting class dues. Class Officers: Left to Right - VICE PRESIDENT, Ijori Acosta; and SECRETARY, Shirley Donatini. Mr. P. and Rosanna Anna Danna GOLF 1979 represented a year of rebuilding for the Agawam High School boys’ golf team. Led bv the experience of only two seniors, captain Tom Napolitan and Paul Sihilia, the team got off to a slow start. Under the guidance of coach Roger I eclcrc, they developed the skills needed to hand both Cathedral and Holyoke defeats. Outstanding individual play was performed by Tom Napolitan, who was the only player on the team to break par in two different matches. With returning lettermen Ed Frighctto, Tim Bennett, Ralph Albano. Dana Mower, and sophomore Phil Butler, prospects for next year appear to be excellent. The boys get ready to go the course. Phil practices his putting. Ed points out the next hole. BASEBALL It was a superb season for the mighty Agawam High Baseball team as they rampaged any team who dared to cross their path. With an overall record of 10-8 for the season, and 9-5 in the league, the Brownies continued to crush ever)' team in sight. Brian Sweeney was the team’s leading pitcher with an over- whelming record of 4 wins, 1 loss, and 1 save for the season. The Brownies also offered some fantastic hitting by the team’s leading hatters which included players Brian Sweeney, Rick Leclerc, Mike Barnes, and Don Callerani. There was no doubt, however, in the minds of the fans, who cheered the mighty Brownies on, that there were other superior and outstanding players who played a very important role in the teams successful year. They were Tom Knight, Boh Bonovita, Steve Ncilson, and Bob Labun. 'Hie last game of the season, however, was a defeating blow to the Brownie’s mighty image, as South Hadley won the game 2-0 for the Valley Wheel. Even with this loss it was still one of Agawam’s most successful seasons, and Coach Smith was very proud of his team. He is now looking ahead to next year’s squad with many starters coming back for yet another challenging season. The pitcher argues a play. Orsatti, the 1979 girl’s softball team ended their season with an 11 8 record. One of the highlights of the season was the victory over Amherst, the defending Western Mass. Champions, by a score of 8 7. The team was led by co- captains Micki Korob and Edwyna Stefanik. Micki led the team in extra l ase hits and stolen bases, while Edwyna was the only player on the team to make All Western Mass. Senior meml ers Lee Harvey, Virginia Cassidy, and Lisa Rioni added strength to the team, with the girls relying heavily on the experience of pitchers Joanne Hart, Kathy Chase, and Rose Hottin throughout the season. Sophomores Debbie Cheetham and Shari Baldarelli exhibited both hitting and fielding skills during the games to make the season successful. With die addition of new members, next year’s outlook appears to be a good one. Ending the season with a 9-11 record, they ranked 6th place in the league. The I960 tennis team will lose three seniors. Cars- Labine, who was voted the most valuable senior with 6 wins out of his last 9 matches. Bob Thomas, who encouraged the team with his excellent talent, and Arthur Wu with his outstanding sportsmanship. Coach Hobson said “The members who acquired valuable match experience will help the team in the future.” Everyone played a good game. Coach discusses the game. GIRLS’ TENNIS The 1979 Girls' Tennis Team finished their season with a 5-15 record. Despite a disappointing season, the girls showed much improvement. With only one senior, the team lacked experience, hut showed enough enthusiasm and determination to defeat Ludlow, Palmer, East Longmeadow, and our arch rival. West Side. Although the team had few victories, the individuals themselves showed much talent, including the first doubles team of senior Anne Bcnerakis and junior Cori Tcssicini, who finsihed with the best doubles record of the team. The second doubles team, consisting of Jane Pacewicz and Chris Impoco improved greatly during the season to gain victories over some of the more important matches. The position of first singles was played by junior Jennifer Ayre who showed great strength and finished with the best singles record of the season. Alternating at second and third singles, were juniors Noel Girard and Ellen Dcsjarlais, who .added strong support to the team. Due to the loss of only one senior, next year's team should be strong and experienced. “This is silly!” Coach demonstrates a forward swing. Coach Modzclesvski and assistant coach Gus Young did an excellent job leading the year as Valley Wheel and Western Mass. Champions. Because of the determination of each individual, the team was a success. Randv Young broke the Valley Wheel record in the triple jump with a jump of 43'V . He also received the most valuable plaver award in the Valley Wheel competition. The undefeatable mile relay consisted of Jeff Woods, Gus Yactecn, Peter Sardella, and Steve Atkinson. Following them, the 440 relay team was also exceptional with the efforts of Dave Stuart, Dave Ritter, Todd Clark and Dan Beaudctte. Mario Mercadante, Mike Longhi, and I arry Roberts displayed their skill in weights. Mario did an excellent job in the discus, and was unbeatable in the Valley Wheel. Gars- Geiger and Jerry Mason used their powers to take command of the pole vault, while Scott Massoia and Rick Nelson took control of the high jump in each of their meets. The 19S0 track team will lose 16 members, but with the determination of the returning track stars the team should have an exceptional season next year. Dan goes for the school record. GIRLS’ TRACK 1979 was the year of improvement for the girl's track team as they went 5-6 for the season, and 4-3 in the Valley Wheel. The girls had undying spirit throughout the year, which gave them the incentive to win. The team offered many highlights during the course of the season: Senior lisa Impoco gave the squad a very strong right arm, as she hurled the javeline an awesome 119 feet. Meanwhile Betty Lombardo, who was named the most valuable senior, ran her fastest time ever in the 440 yard run with a time of 60.3 seconds. These highlights were supported hv the unbeatable mile relay team who continued to crush every relay that dared to run against them. The squad also included many top runners. These six fantastic girls were seniors Frieda Bauman, Pam Berube. Lisa Impoco, Betty Lombardo, Donna Regnier and junior Natalie Ritchie. Other excellent runners included seniors Lisa Allen, Lori Cosby, and Dana Moraski. Coach Paul Blodget and Assistant coach I urinc Grcguoli were very proud of the teams efforts and the spirit shown by the girls with two-third of last years squad returning, they feel that this coming season will lx even better than last year's. This terrific support came from all members who ran for the squad. This season offered the school its largest cross country team, and the most meets ever won in the team’s 9 year history at the High School. Captain Jeff Woods led the squad in their victories. He took 3rd place in the Western Mass, meet, and qualified for State. This years senior members included Christine Barr, Bill Butman, Tom Ritter, Doug Stoll and Jeff Woods. This was the best year the team has ever seen, and Coach Modzclcwski feels that next year will be even better and should find an even larger team. The public cheers on the guys. FIELD HOCKEY The Agawam Field Hockey team posted a disappointing league record of 1 10 1. Despite this record, the team was led to a challenging season by tri-captains Jenny Ayre, Noel Girard, and Kathy Spellacy, all returning Varsity players. Juniors Debbie Cheetham, and Paulette Girard, also returning Varsity players from last year, provided a solid nucleus to the team but as a whole, they lacked playing experience. Playing for the first time were seniors, Karen Houghtaling, Judi Ribciro. Julie Thorscn, and junior Jenny Hopkins. Advancing J.V. players from last year were seniors Chris Orr, Man.1 Taupier, juniors Joanne Landers, Denise Murray, and Dawn Negrucci. Six of these players will Ik returning again next year, looking forward to new talent from juniors and sophomores to help build a successful season. Here they come, hide! FOOTBALL The Agawam Brownies concluded their 1979 football season with a 6-4 record. The team was led by the superior coaching staff of head coach Jack Michalak, and asst, coaches Sapclli, Lavoie, and Bachini. The Brownies kicked off their season with a thrilling victory over Minnechaug, ending their 22 game winning streak. They again showed their talent by defeating Chicopee and Chicopee Comp, along with the decisive victories over Drury and Taconic. The Brownies also took command over the previously undefeated Milford Hawks, with a score of 26-22. This was the first time in Agawam’s school history that they had defeated the Hawks. The Brownies, however, did suffer with losses to Holyoke, Westfield, and Cathedral. The major blow was the unfortunate loss of the rivalry trophy, which was gracefully handed over to the West Side Terriers. The Brownies were led through a successful season by a strong senior backficld made up of Rick Leclcrc, Joe Pezzimenti, and Dan Beaudette. Brian Sweeney and Abe Yacteen were the agile senior receivers. The skillful blocking was executed by a superb front line consisting of seniors Mike Longhi, Bill Blackak, Glenn Welch, Larry Roberts, and Junior Jim Fleming. Other outstanding players included Frank Campiti, Paul Knight, Vin Korta- bani, Kurt Toomcy, Grant Ward, Steve Wojcik and Paul Zerbinopoulos. The mighty Brownies now have two goals for the upcoming I960 fall season, one is to have another winning season, and the other is to destroy the West Side Terriers. Charge!!! Here we come, Westfield. Alright Abe, this one’s for you. 29 CHEERLEADERS The 1980 Varsity Cheerleading squad found themselves facing the new decade with many fresh faces and unique changes. Not only were there only three seniors cheering, but the two co- captains, Ann Abbey and Chris Norman were both juniors. Boosting spirits and arousing energy from Agawam spectators were just some of the cheerers’ many activities. Raising money for the football scholarships, organizing rallies, and decorating the school is all part of the time-consuming life of being a cheerleader. Under the supervision of their experienced Coach Donna Bodurtha. the girls added vitality and motivation whenever on the scene. Practice makes perfect. The littlest cheerleader. Coaches watch with satisfaction. Time for a rest! J.V. cheerleaders put their talent to work. Timber! Junior Varsity cheerleaders start off with a bench cheer. BOYS’ SOCCER The 1979 Boys’ Soccer team led by tri-captains, Dave Gilbert, Bart McCarthy, and Tom Sipitowski, bad excellent potential but lacked the cohesiveness to put it all together. Although they had six wins and twelve losses, they worked hard as a team and Coach Blodgett stated that most players made fine performances through- out the year. Bart McCarthy led the team with fourteen goals and four assists, helping him to make All Western Mass. Dave Gilbert, the Brownies goalie, saved many of the games with his excellent performance, while Dave Wheeler and Tom Sipitowski also added to the team with their talents. Gene Arsenault, the Brownies sweeper, was greatly depended upon by his teammates, and he played his position well. The Agawam Girls' Soccer team finished their season with a winning record of 8-7-1. Starting slowly, the girls had a record of 3- 7. half-way into the season. By working hard and developing their skills, they finished the second half with a record of 5-0-1. The team was led by tri-captains, Joanne Anderson, Kathy Chase, and Shari Baldarelli, all showing outstanding talent. Leading scorers for the team were seniors Elaina Granger and Kathy Chase. Lori Harvey, I.vnda Kunasek, Kathy LaGrange, Sue Conroy, and Ix ri Woodruff were all seniors who gathered their skills to help make it a successful season. Sophomore Ixiri Costa and Chris Altohelli did their part on defense to help out the team’s efforts, but due to the loss of eight star players, next year’s team will have a hit of rebuilding before they can have a successful season. As a result of hard work, conditioning, and unselfishness, the team came up with a winning record, landing the offense were seniors Rick Ixjclerc and Abe Yacteen who performed excellent jobs and averaged over ten points a game. As a floor leader, senior Jerry Quill did a tremendous job both offensively and defensively. Seniors Don LaViolettc, Dan Bcaudctte, and Chris Kazantis all contributed to help make it a successful season. Junior Dean Molta and sophomore Kevin Banies added their talents to strengthen and complete the team. “Overall the team had no one star said Coach Conte, “they all were very determined and willing to work hard.” Next year, with the returning varsity players, plus the upcoming J.V. players, it should be a season to look forward to. With only four seniors on the squad, it was necessary to rely on the remaining experience of the four junior players. Led by captain Elaina Granger, a three year veteran, the team played at an elevated level of competition. The performances of seniors, Kathy Chase, Kathy LaGrange, and Gail Stepanik, all playing the forward position, certainly deserve acclaim. Juniors Debbie Chectham, Shari Baldarclli, Laura Gcndron, and Lynn Mokan added their talents to make for a successful season. With four returning varsity players and the upcoming J.V. players, the team should have an outstanding season. Elaina blocks another shot. Shari struggles for the rebound. Bill Sapclli felt the team would prosper from high scoring captains Al Hardina, Gary Malanson, and Jerry Sibilia. Sam Deitelhaum's efforts in the net kept the opponents score low, and juniors John Couture, Vin Masi, and Pat Sullivan contributed by their strong assists leading to many goals. Let us not forget the solid Agawam defense led by Jerry Sihilia and John Colby aiding the AHS cause. The team lost very few seniors in 1979, so a strong ’80 season was expected to begin the new decade. The good offense, solid defense, and timely goal keeping spell out a great season for these deter- mined Brownies. Coach Sapclli gives a pep talk to senior captains. Senior members; Steve Bordeaux, Sean O’Connor, Mike Ixmghi, Cary Malanson, Coach Sapclli, Richie Hardina, Jerry Sihilia, John Colby, Charlie Vanasse, Sam Dcitclhaum. Another goal against (Cathedral. Coach Faucette, Coach Sapelli 141 SKI TEAM This year both the Girls’ and Boys’ Ski Teams waited patiently for snow ... but, it never seemed to come. The team managed to ski, anyhow, by traveling to Berkshire East and Otis Ridge twice a week. The Boys’ Team was led by captain Mike Chmura. Seniors Jeff Bartnick, Gene Arsenault, Mike Wagner and Mark Rafay all showed excellent skill during the season, along with Junior Bill Robinson and sophomore John Darnell who contributed their talents to help make the team successful. The Girls’ Team was headed by captains Lisa Liberatore, along with junior Chris Liberatore, who both showed tremendous skill during the meets. Other top racers included Kathy Spellacy, Becky Roberts, and Dasvn Negrucei. “Despite the lack of snow, the teams are hard working and dedicated”, says Coach Files and Coach Lane. With returning lettermcn and upcoming skiers, next year’s outlook appears to be good. Coach Files can’t wait to hit the slopes. “Faster than a speeding bullet!' Members of the team testing equipment. 142 The 1979 Bovs and Girls Ski Team Gene glides down the slope w ith ease. “Skiing is believing.' I -13 BOY’S SWIMMING Coach Dave Smith led the 1979-80 Boy's Swim Team to another fine season. The team showed fantastic swimming by team captain Boh Brock as he broke the school record in the 100 yard breast stroke, and by Dave Gilbert who broke the record in the 50 yard free style. This year’s senior members include Tim Bennett, Bob Brock, Ed Frighetto, Dave Oill crt, Gary Lasky, Jim Martin and Frank Mastromatteo. Continuous practices and undying spirit led the team to victories over schools which were known to be very competitive. With the same rigid schedule, next year’s squad is destined to be just as successful. Coach Smith gives advice. Backstrokers take your mark. 1979 Boys Swim Team; first row, left to right; Jim Martin, Bob Brock, Ed Frighetto, Gary I.asky, Dave Gilbert, Frank Mastromatteo, Tim Bennett, second row; Coach Smith, Phil Butler, Dave Podgorski, Michael Ilazon, Assistant Coach Lane, third row: Steve Flood, Steve Gilda, Jim Podgorski, Mike Flood. GIRLS SWIM TEAM This year the 1979 Girl’s Swim Team experienced the new coaching style of Lisa Fenton, a former swimmer for the Agawam team. Due to the lack of girls, the team finished their season with a disappointing record of 3-11-1. The top swimmers for the team consisted of three experienced senior members, Kathy Curran, and co-captains Anna Iacolo and Karen Vangsncss. Junior Patrice Ross and sophomore Tammv Lucia were also strong swimmers for the team. With many unexpected events occurring during meets and practices, the team was never left without plenty of excitement. With the lovs of three top senior swimmers, in order for a more successful season next year, the team will need some new faces in the water. She’s the Coach. Coach Fenton Karen strokes her way to the finish line. Kathy takes the “Ncstea plunge.' The 1979 Girls Swim Team first row; left to right, Tammy Iaicia, Sue Spagnoli, Lori Clow, Sandec Brittain, Rita Iacolo, Linda Allen, Gina Iacolo, Kathy Thornhill, top row. Coach Lisa Fenton, Charlotte Vinton, Anna Iacolo, Kathv Curran, Karen Vangsness, Patrice Ross. WEIGHTLIFTING Starting around December of each year, you can hear the clanking of weights being used in the universal room by devoted weightlifters. Seniors Glenn Welch and Grant Ward led the team in their daily weightlifting routines, while Coach Joe Lavoie directed them to workout more each day in order to build up their bodies. Coach Lavoie stated that the teams main objective is to develop the physical portion of the body that would otherwise become cellulotic.” Lifting also strengthens the cardio vascular system which in turn allows for greater mental ability and clarity. Weightlifting, like many other sports, includes a lot of hard work and dedication, and judging from the energy being dissipated, these people must be very dedicated! Kathy uses the leg weights to help strengthen her legs. 1979 Agawam High School Weightlifters. Heeve, Hooooo! WRESTLING Under the direction of Coach Phil Tomkiel, the 1980 Wrestling Team found this year to he competitive. Ending the previous season with only one loss. Coach Tomkiel looked to senior captains Steve Fields, Boh Schwein and Paul Zcrhinopoulos to lead the squad in the new season. With only 4 sophomores coming out for the team. Coach Tomkiel was very disappointed in this year's turnout. Returning seniors Joe Pezzimenti and Dan Olson, along with Steve Tetreault were the big pinners for the year. New comers Tony Krzvkowski, Ken Peck and Jim Peiffer supplied the extra depth needed to pin their opponents. Looking ahead to the next season, the squad will be losing most of its wrestlers to graduation; and so. for a successful team, many new players will he needed. Steve and Bob demonstrate the art of wrestling. 1979 Varsity Wrestling team; front row, left to right; Jim Peiffer, Dan Olson, Steve Fields, Boh Schwein, Steve Tetreault, second row; Tom Foote, Paul Zerhinopoulos, Ken Peck, Jim Fleming, Tony Krvzkowski, Joe Pezzimcnti, Coach Tomkiel. C’mon you guys, cut it out. “Let go of me you animal!” 147 1979 Junior Varsity Wrestling Team - . GYMNASTICS v The 1979-80 Girls Gymnastics team got off to a slow start with only one win for their first seven meets. However, this slump did not put a damper on the girls’ spirit and drive which was led by senior captains Lisa Hadden, Sue Milar and Tracey Settle. With the coaching of 4 year veteran laurine Greguoli, the team had very strong potential. Displaying varied styles and maneuvers on the apparatus and in their floor exercises, the girls performances were enthusiastic and exciting. Seniors Lisa Hadden and Sue Milar were the teams high scorers, with senior Lori Pajer excelling on the uneven bars. Talent and experience the redeeming qualities which will be present in next years squad should make it a successful year. Sharon demonstrates how to mount the bars. BOWLING CLUB The Agawam High School Bowling Club was officially a team for the first time during the 1979-1980 season. Although the organization has been operating in the past, this year was the only time that Adviser Dave Hobson had officers for the squad, which were president Ken Webb, treasurer Bill Butman, and secretary Roger Olwinski. Senior members included Bill Butman, Craig Greenough, Dana Mower, and Ken Webb. The bowling club meets ever)' Monday after school at the Riverdale Lanes in West Springfield, where they compete against the West Side Terriers bowling team. Coach Hobson feels that bowling is a fast growing sport like track, golf, and soccer. He also feels that bowling will be among the top ten sports like baseball, and football in tbe near future. Mr. Hobson, Ken Webb, Bill Butman. Roger Olwinski Ken shows perfect form. That score doesn’t seem fair. 149 ‘Hope it doesn’t end up in the gutter! SKI CLUB Under the supervision of Mr. Lowrey and Mr. Merullo, the 1980 Ski Qub was a success member-wise, if not snow-wise. Even with a lack of snow for almost the whole ski season, the club was not totally devastated. Mt. Tom did their best with the lielp of artificial snow-makers and cold weather to make the most of the sport. Although all runs were not open, and the sight of grass growing halfway up the mountain was a disgusting sight, the slopes were skiable. Members were classed from A to E, according to ability, and all were pleased with the little skiing that they could get in for the year. All skiers are looking forward to a more bluster)- and normal winter season next year. Think Snow Evers-one! The 1980 Ski Club. Although they all cannot be listed here, we would like to mention the names of just a few who deserve recognition. First of all, a special thanks to the Sack Palace Cinema and Mr. Larry Senez for the use of their theatre and facilities, which made the whole theme of our book possible. Secondly, we would like to thank all of our advertisers and patrons for their sup- port and Mr. John Carrier, our yearbook representative, for his help throughout the year. Finally, last but not least, we would like to thank a very devoted person who donated much of his time, experience and himself to make our yearbook what it is, something to be cherished and saved — Thank you, Mr. Pulaski. In addition we would like to recognize and congratulate the stars of our book, you, the class of 1980, for if it were not for you these memories would not have been possible. “This is the End. EDITOR-IN-CHIEF The main purpose of a yearbook is to store memories. For this reason, ever)' time you look at our 1980 Sachem it should bring back all the emotions and traumas we felt during our high school years whether they be happy, sad, funny or glad. Our aim, as the Yearbook Staff, was to capture in pictures and in words the many things which took place that we would want to remember in years to come. Hopefully we have succeeded in doing tills.
