Of Mice and Men. . . 35 APRIL 26-27 of Mice Men 36 Back to the 50’s Everything was Nowsville, Wowsville, Nowhereville, and fifty-eleven other villes. Elvis Presley, better known as Elvis the Pelvis, was whining such songs as Hound Dog Man and Blue Suede Shoes and Love Me Tender. Johnny Horton, promising country-western singer, was killed in a car accident at a time when his songs such as Battle of New Orleans and The Sinking of the Bismark were popular. Dodie Stevens sang about her boyfriend, who wore tan shoes with pink shoelaces, a pink panama hat adorned with a purple hat band, and a polka dot vest. Pat Boone graduated from college and was singing popular songs. Some of his songs and many other popular ones were featured weekly on a television show. The Hit Parade , which was devoted only to the singing of the top ten songs of the week. Hair oil and combs were necessary for all guys who were really kool. Teen-age boys wore black leather jackets, super- tight (also super-loose) blue jeans, and constantly ran a comb through their greasy curls. Girls wore long (mid-calf) circle (flared) skirts with oodles of can-cans under them. The average can- can included from 35-50 yards of net! Two can-can -clad girls were lucky to fit into one bus seat. Passengers entering the bus tripped on their skirts. Every night teen-agers got out their black and white shoe polish so they could polish their saddle shoes. Those who didn t have saddle shoes, polished their tennis shoes each night and hoped that they were dry by morning. When the shoe polish soaked through into the bobby sox, the wearer was rather uncomfortable. Dancers knew whom they were dancing with when they did the lindy or the bunny-hop. Most of the time danc- ing partners even touched each other! So, AHS students experienced some of these things about 20 years after they had happened. 37 39 .. .Lead to a Successful Prom 41 And Continues With. . . Sports and Fashions. . . A Parent's Thoughts Tom is such a fine boy. It really would be great if that dumb coach would let him play. I wonder if he ever gets tired of sitting. Maybe now that we're ahead by 20 points he'll be able to play. How's the boy to learn if that coach never lets him get any experience. They're putting him in! Tighten that helmet! What- ever you do, boy, don't make a mistake or you're grounded for 2 weeks. He made a tackle! Isn't he on top of one of our guys? A Girlfriend's Thoughts We've got to win this game. It's the only game left and then we'll win the conference. Bill, if you make us lose, I'll never forgive you. Don't even touch the ball during the last few minutes! You can't even hold hands right, how ya gonna hold that slippery foot- ball! My gosh, he caught the ball. He crossed the line; he made a touchdown. Oh, I can't wait till tonite. A Player's Thoughts Boy, now's my chance to show the coach I've really got it in me. Hey, he threw me the ball, what'll I do? Oh, I see an open spot, I'll just drive in for a touchdown and make six points. Here I go. There is someone ahead of me coming at me. Whew! I just got by him. Here comes the goal line. I made it. I'm a hero! Wait, why does the coach want me? You mean I made a touchdown for the other team? 46 Then Basketball Season Began FRONT ROW—Jim Winter, student manager; Jim Eickhoff; Tim Lewis; Doug Beming; Bruce Brunk; Mark Cox, student manager. After four long years at Adrian High School, the Class of 73 tends to remem- ber only the good times and forgets the bad. Remember when we were punky Freshmen, trying to sell that hard selling candy? When we sat at home on Saturday nights watching T.V. instead of doing some of the wild tilings we do now? Remember hauling huge boxes from the hospital to East Elementary for our bonfire? What about our Homecoming skit, the skunk and the bathing beauties, remember? Getting excited over having a Homecoming date? And the terrific bus ride at the end of the year that took us to the cities for a class trip? Exciting year, hull? Remember the great soc hops of our Sophomore year after the terrific sell-outs in the concession stands? Pawning off our raffle tickets to kind-hearted neighbors and in turn staying for cookies and milk (that's when we were good kids) and ending up staying for forty-five minutes when we were only supposed to stay five? How about the great roller skating party with the morning after stiffness ? We finally end that long year with a super fantastic day at Arnold's Park! Remember a few of the kids couldn't stay out of the water and had to ride all the way home with really wet heads ? It hadn't been as bad as our Freshman year and they were getting better all the time! Junior year already? Like they say, time doesn't stand still especially when you're having fun. It was a big year for labor, with selling magazines, lining up a Home- coming skit which won us a trophy, (remember Terry the Fairy?), selling all that candy and trying to sneak a piece or two during class. Remember the feeling we had picking out class rings? That before too long we'd be out there experiencing the world. Thinking about how long it would be before we'd give them away and getting a much larger or a too small one in return? Remember all the class meetings and the discussions over Prom theme and colors? It was fun just thinking and decorating for it, but the real fun was in the dance itself along with the parties afterwards and being able to sleep all the next day. Remember the lonely realization that came to us while we watched the seniors parade around school? The realization that next year it would be us. Sitting around knowing that we'll be out in May, gives us an excited, but peaceful, easy feeling. We haven't ever-worked ourselves this year, but being seniors we felt we had that privilege. We didn't do as much this year as in other years, but the Class of '73 does know how to work if they want to. Some of our working projects in- cluded sitting in the halls at noon selling those buttons that brighten up school life during Homecoming week. We've had the experience, which was a great pleasure, of choosing announcements, gown colors, class flower and motto, and everything that goes along with being a senior and graduating. Another Prom has come and gone, but the memories of that night will always remain, one in which we were honored. It was really nice and everyone enjoyed themselves in one way or another. The Senior Class would like to take tliis opportunity to thank the Junior Class for the beautiful Prom, a special thanks to our advisors, Miss Marcia Flanigan, Mr. Terry Konechnc, Mr. Ted Rcisdorfcr, and to the rest of the faculty and advisors who have taken any part in our education, and a very special thanks to our parents who have helped us out in both good times and bad. To these people and many more, the Class of '73 gives their thanks. THE CLASS OF '73 77 Drar Siop, i4opJ St« p ou4« dc it. In Memoriam Jeffrey William Mueller Bom: May 11, 1957 Died: February 6, 1973 He spent the first half of the year with us, playing football, prac- ticing his horn, studying for all those tests, doing those long assignments. Once we learned of his illness, we worried about him, prayed for him, asked others how he was getting along. We kept our vigil until February sixth. Our vigil is over. We now have only memories of Jeff Mueller, our classmate and friend of 11 years. 84 Cindy Archer Loren Arends Marlin Arends Dale Becker Larry Beming Gary Bertrand Larry Balster Beverly Bullerman Mike Bullerman Terri Bullerman cAoo • • • •• €JS Aon « w«r ' •' «  «. ... m7i • Ho M3oo.rJ S . ... The accident ended it all. As a seventh grader he participated in junior high chorus, and in eighth grade he participated in junior high football. These dedicated guys transported us to school on nice days and not so nice days. We appreciated what they did for us, but we sel- dom took the time to say thanks. You are doing a fine job; we thank you. Roscoe Bickett retired this year. At a party given in his honor he received a fishing rod and reel, and Adrian jacket, lots of tackle, and many good wishes for a happy retirement. Soon after he re- turned to AHS to help out where he was needed, but this time he worked only part time. 101 Aoo s 6 e. fae ‘ - The. Air. fonechne,, Afiss 7kty  , and. fr. 'fteisdtor -per 103 Here I Go . . .. .Taking my last walk down the hall as a student my footsteps re- echo in my ears. A smile creeps slowly across my face as I pass my old locker, remembering what all I had taped up in it and how messy it used to be from old notes and books. Walking past the office, where much time was spent getting tardy slips, excuses, and just spending time out of class. Ahh, the study hall, all the gossip, noise and plans made there, swiftly pass through my memory banks and cause me to laugh. The gym, remembering all the school dances, concerts, and two beauti- ful proms now over and done with, but the memories still linger and cling. Even the individual classrooms hold memories too dear to forget, some too painful to remember! Recollections of class trips, picnics, and parties are also on the edge of my memory, now willingly brought to the surface, to laugh about and remember. All the teachers I've had; their faces now pass by in my mind and I remem- ber; some for their good points, and some for bad points, but none- the-less, their faces remembered. Yes, my twelve years have passed by, but in time only! Some knowledge remains, but the memories made here shall remain for all time causing me to laugh, cry, smile, or sigh, but whatever, they will remain. 104
