IN MEMORY OF BARRY BRUNK We dedicate this annual to a young man who, in his twelve short years at Adrian, certainly became one of the most active and well-liked personalities in school. He always lived life to the fullest, and his world was one of warmth, laughter, and friendship. 3 VIBRATIONS OF SCHOOL School is to listen to the steady, smooth flow of a teacher's voice trying to make sense out of the world. To hear a tyrannical bell divide your life into neat, compact segments. To jostle and shove and twist your way through a blurred sea of faces. To greet the slam of a locker like an old friend. To recognize the loneliness in the foot- steps echoing down the hallway. To hate and laugh, hear and feel, and just to be . . . 5 6 SPORTS FOOTBALL SEASON DISAPPOINTMENT AND JOY FIRST ROW: G. The new and the old players tried hard to bring across a good season. Even though they didn't win as many as they wanted, they accomplished one great thing, which was to unify our school. 10 TEAM APPLIED SPEED AND TEAMWORK TO OVERCOME LACK OF EXPERIENCE This season, we started out with high hopes. Though it didn't turn out as well as we expected, it still was an exciting season. We were winning even though we were losing on the scoreboard, because our school spirit was great. It provided valuable experience for next year's team. The basketball season did do it's main job by teach- ing good sportsmanship. Also at the conference we had three first and five second place winners. They all should be congratulated for their fine efforts and accomplishments. Danny, who has been a wrestler since the sport was introduced here, is our leaving senior. Special mention should be given to Bob Gilb who went on to the district matches, received second and continued on to the regional. The four top wrestlers were Bob Gilb, 14--4; Daryl Wolf, 11--3; Dan Palas- chak, 11--3—1; and Lyman Halverson, 10--5. The support also improved much over last year. With this kind of spirit, the wrestlers could again win the conference next year and continue on. First Place Winners B. Gilb L. Halverson D. Wolf Second Place Winners B. Wolf T. Erlandson R. This made it possible for many new cheers and different arrangements. The cheerleaders were greatly supported by enthusiastic fans more this year than any other year. The A squad attended a cheerleading clinic at St. James in the fall, where they learned new techniques of cheerleading. Though the cheerleaders had to work hard Mr. Lind- ner should not be forgotten. Much credit should be given to him for the cheerleaders' perfection. B Squad Left'to right: C. Klooster B. Klein P. Konz K. Heffele M. Klein A. Wick Wrestling Cheerleaders Mary Lais Terese Homan Vicky Peters Jr. High Cheerleaders: Kathy McCarthy, Sharon Wick, Patricia Mauch, Becky Raley, Becky Breuer, Donna Scheidt, Mary Kellen. The addition of the wrestling cheer- leaders has greatly increased the amount of fans, especially this year. The cheer- leaders did a great job of giving the team the urge on to victory. This was proven when the wrestlers won the Con- ference title. Never before has the Jr. High team been so greatly supported as this year. The Jr. High Cheerleaders have learned a lot. JR. Festivities began on October 3 with coronation ceremonies, presided over by Junior Class President Paul Kunkel. Dennis Hohn and Linda Schutz were crowned king and queen. Of the class skits following coronation, the eight grade's was voted best. The bonfire and snake dance completed the evening. The Dragons attended a triumphant Homecoming dance Friday night after defeating the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen, 36 to 22. Music was provided by the Gemini 6, and an enjoyable evening was had by all. At top of page: King and Queen candidates Mike Cox, Carol Mormann, Kevin Mc- Carthy, and Jeannie Klein. 25 The theme A Time For Us, combined with a Roman setting provided a romantic atmosphere for the Junior-Senior Prom held on May 1, 1970. The night started off with a banquet in the high school gym. The opening prayer was read by Mary Eickhoff. Paul Kunkel, as Jr. class president, welcomed the students. The students then enjoyed a delightful Swiss steak dinner. Following the meal Rosie Reis- dorfer thanked the Juniors on behalf of the Senior class. Bob Kunkel, adding a touch of humor, read the prophecy. The Seniors had previously drawn up a last will and testament, leaving their wordly possessions to the Juniors. This was then read by Dennis Hohn. Following the banquet the students spent the re- mainder of the evening at the East Elementary gym, dancing to the sound of the Solutions. Roman pillars, realistic murals, and a beautiful waterfall created a mood of enchantment. VALENTINE'S QUEEN REIGNED DURING A NIGHT OF MUSIC The traditional Valentine's Ball was held this year on the evening of February 14. It highlighted a week during which students had a chosen representative from each class as a candidate for Valentine's Princess or Queen. Candidates for Princess, shown below right, were Beverly Klein, Joann Heitkamp, and Sharon Wick. Queen candi- dates, shown at middle right were Therese Fritz, Mary Lynn Eickhoff, and Pat Konz. The evening got under way with coronation during which Beverly Klein was crowned by the outgoing prin- cess, Cheryl Klooster. Mary Lynn Eickhoff received the honor of being Valentine's Queen. She was crowned by the 1969 Queen, Carol Mormann. The dance followed coronation, during which students danced to the music of the Mount Rushmore. 28 DRAMA CLUB PRESENTS THE PHYSICISTS The Physicists, Adrian's 1970 fall drama pre- sentation, was given on the evening of November 14 and 15. It dealt with the inner conflict of a physicist, Mobius, who had discovered knowledge which was capable of turning the world into a far better place to live or destroying it. With 200 new students added to the school system, there was a much wider selection of talented actors to choose from than had been previously available. The play was enjoyed and appreciated by all who saw it. The Physicists was directed by Mr. Henry Exoo. Four senior high and six junior high students participated in the Regional Science Fair, held this year at Marshall. Participation was less than had been hoped for, but those who did take part received high honors. John Boecker's on Motion Simulation and Jan Lonne- man's project on Euglena--Plant or Animal? earned them both purple ribbons at Marshall and a trip to the State Fair. John also received a $300 scholarship at Marshall and a Navy Award at the State Fair. John is shown as right being congratulated by an official of the Marshall Col- lege. Becky's and Pat's projects merited blue ribbons at Marshall. GIRLS' TRACK INITIATED IN 1970 1970 saw the first girls' track team ever in AHS history, and the team did exceptionally well, con- sidering that they were inexperi- enced and attended only two meets, the Triangular Meet and the Conference. The team placed high in shoput and broadjump, and Elaine Wieneke placed first in the high jump at the Conference Meet. Members of the track team are shown above. R. 1: K. McCarthy, D. Brake, J. Hannele Torppa, of Finland, stayed an entire year with the Jim Slater family. Ricardo Lamastra of Argentina stayed with the Cletus Spieker family for six months. Both students took courses in U.S. history, English, Senior Social, and Art, and both partook in extra- curricular activities. The entire school enjoyed the presence of these vivacious, intelligent people who added to our knowledge of other people and places in the world. We hope we gave as much to them as they gave to us.
