The Freshmen at Adrian have come a long way since the begin- ning years of the college. In the eary 1900s, Freshmen had to follow such rules as: Freshmen beanies must be worn at all times, and must always be tipped to upperclassmen, Freshmen must not smoke on campus, walk on the grass, or be seen with a girl except on Friday and Satur- ay nights, Freshmen must clean up the campus when ordered to by up erclassmen. Today, though, Freshmen are equal to the upperclassmen, despite the teasin they take. This year, the froslm were con- solidated with the u perclassmen in the dorms for the first time. Students are not sure of the wisdom of this decision, but maybe the Freshmen will now no longer bear the brunt of so many degrading jokes.

The rock, now in front of Ritchie Dining Hall, was first brought on campus in lanuary, 1962, by the brothers of the Tau Kappa Espilon fraternity. Painting the rock, they thought, would decrease campus vandalism and increase school spirit. But in 1965, the rock disap eared. Apparently, an irate Al- bion College student buried the rock in the front lawn of the dining hall. A few weeks later, after accusations flew from dorm to fraternity, the rock began showing through the ground. The rock that AC students paint today is only one- third of the original rock. ,. 46 I' Ml In dorm life toda , we take visiting members of the opposite sex for granted. However, in earlier years, men and women had a much harder time seeing each other as we do now. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, men were strictly forbidden to visit women unless they had permis- sion from the Dean of Women, and then the had to visit in the lobby or be chaperoned. Even through the 70s, men and women could only visit in lobbies and other recreational rooms. Today, the only restrictions are limited closed hours, when men and women cannot be in the same room. Some of the old- fashioned values of yesteryear still prevail upon the Adrian Col- lege campus. 'I
