In 1984, the South Hall Bell was mounted atop a brick base near Ship- man Library. The senior class raised enough money to move the almost forgotten bell from inside the Carillon Tower to where it stands today. ln 2009, the class of '84 will return, and re-open E time capsule which sits beneath the e . Whereas the South Hall Bell beckons the future, Downs Hall reminds us of the pastp built in 1860, it is the only building remaining from Adrian's original campus. Downs Hall hosts the art gallery, a theater, and, as legend has it, a ghost that roams the halls. The newest addition to the host of campus landmarks is the South Lawn Sign, near Davis and Feeman Halls. The class of 1986 donated this small, granite sign to the college in April during the Cane Ceremony.

Over its 128 year life, the Adrian College campus has ac- quired several buildings and landmarks. The Mound was left by the class of 1869. Their original intention was to erect a statue of Asa Mahan, Adrian's first president. However, the funds never came through, thus the class of '69 left a unique and distinctive landmark. The con- crete 'A' at the front of campus was constructed by the class of 1914. The 'A' is generally re- served for en aged couples. The stone threshold, now used as a seat in front of North Hall, has been here since 1859, making it the oldest landmark on campus

0 V51 , fi T The Adrian College campus abounds with many fun, unique traditions. One of the most sentimental of which is the Cane Ceremony. The ceremony, which follows graduation, is performed near the mound. Each class ties a ribbon of its colors onto the cane, then, the president of the graduating class hands it down to the resident of the next class. The cane dates flrom 1887, and the ceremony began in 1921. Another tradition, though little known, is touching the Lincoln Statue for good luck. The bronze statue sits in the library, where the class of '63 began touching its tail for good luck. A friendly 'hi' is popular on the AC campus. Adrian enjoys the reputation of being a friendly campus, with a friendly 'hi' to greet you all over campus. N 2 . z' an :f,'f QQ, A 9 0 wgf' , I 1
