Many found that racing to the mall at Hawthorn for lunch proved to be both an adventure and a chal- lenge. Their consistently good scores on the ACT and SAT confirmed that Stevenson is still on top. JUNIORS V4 o, “In spite of the cost of living, it’s still popular.” — Kathleen Norris Fur second Home- coming victory in a row was the talk of this year’s special events. The Varsi- ty Patriots pounded Zion-Benton 35-19. Plays and concerts provided year- round entertainment, displaying the diverse talents of numerous individuals. The cooperation and enthusi- asm that brought these events to life is what sets our school apart from the rest. + a a SPECIAL EVENTS 144 Lucmo Library J w T j earning how to avoid being trampled over by upperclassmen, being able to recite, from memory, every rule in the Student Guide- book, and realizing that you’re supposed to stand when “Loyalty” is played were among the accomplishments of this year’s freshman class. a q FRESHMEN 4o r I “There cannot be a crisis next week. Countless friendships and fond memories resulted from spirited participation in group activities this year. Among the most popular of events was, of course, the foreign language picnic. Seldom is there a day when nothing is going on. a CLUBS 4 “The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.’ — Chinese Proverb JS tevenson has never seen a group quite as spirited as the Class of ’87. They won Homecoming’s Class Color Day, again, for the fourth year in a row. Having college entrance exams, admissions applications, term papers, and “senioritis behind them, they were more than prepared to start anew after taking the final steps to graduate at Ravinia in June. aq SENIORS lUo r rom lecturing, giving quizzes tests, grading papers, running out of red ink, writing tardy discipline referrals, holding their tempers, to even — sometimes — smiling, the Stevenson faculty has once again proved their worth. This excellent school is what it is today because of their continued dedication. fyf any changes have taken place since we walked through Ste- venson's doors last August. The freshmen have largely grown out of their grade school tendencies, some hundred or more sopho- mores now contribute to the traffic we curse while trying to get to school on time, half the junior class is already showing signs of “seniori tis,” and the seniors have completed their four-year stay here, having gained the knowledge and maturity that will prepare them for the future. These changes mark growth. The expansion of the building best symbolizes this growth, illustrating Stevenson s thriving pop- ulation and need for more room. But if you look closely at the new structure, you will notice that it is very different from the old. One might term it more “modern. “ What we are witnessing is progress. Stevenson has overcome many obstacles in becoming the fine institution it is today. Trac- ing those steps from twenty-two years ago makes that change more appreciable. This opening section is dedicated to the people and events that made — and continue to make — Adlai E. Stevenson High School the distinctive institution it is today. Mi
