Stevenson has come a long way in providing a sound education for its students, The work of teachers and stu- dents created a fine reputation. We recently received a Certificate of Merit for “progress toward excellence in education” from the U.S. Offices of Education, and were one of a hundred schools in the country selected as a potential site for the National Computer Training Insti- tute. In 1989, we will look forward to hosting the National Association of Student Councils National Convention. Hard work sends ninety-three percent of our graduates on to college. “Men must be born free; they cannot be born wise; and it is the duty of the school to make free men wise.” . „ . Most students spend their free-time in the lower com- mons, where they can sit and relax, study, or talk to friends without getting into trouble. Another popular area, before school and during lunch hours, is the cafete- ria. The majority of upperclassmen, however, leave cam- pus for lunch. For them, Hawthorn Shopping Mall is a convenient gathering place, with Denny’s running a close second. Researched by: Stacie Campbell Andrea Hildcrbrand With all that Stevenson has successfully endured, lit is interesting to wonder what its future will hold. A quick glance around the building will confirm | that we are actively involved in progress. The computer has affected nearly every facet of I education. Today computers have uses ranging from classroom demonstration tools to home study aids. Even our schedules and report cards, which were once done by hand, are now done on computers. “What is rare is the courage to follow the talent to the dark place where it leads.” — Erica Jung Modernization has also brought new dimension to fashion. The “in” mod look has futuristic appeal. Fashions are definitely becoming more imaginative and unique, as can be seen in the way many students dress. It is hard to predict what effect technology will have on the future. Years ago, scarcely anyone knew SHS existed. Growth, change, and progress put it on the map. At least we can be confident that Stevenson’s continued dedication to excellence in education will hold a fine reputation in years to come. 9
