Ms. Kallas, Ms. Griffin, Ms. Fischer, Mr. Tieman, Mr. Hamburg MATH AND MUSIC During the 1973-1974 year the Mathematics Department at Adlai E. Stevenson provided options for students having varied interests, needs, or capabilities. In addition to the scheduled classes many students gained additional mathematical experiences by working with the computer, calculators, problems of the week , puzzles and by participating in the Annual Mathematics Association of American contest. Several students participate within the department through teacher aide and independent study programs. This past year the department initiated 4 quarter courses of Mini-Math and attempted some team teaching and large group instructions. Teachers within the department were Ms. Fischer, Ms. Griffin, Mr. Hamburg, and Mr. Tie- man. The Department para professional was Mr. Kallas. 12 Mr. Habley The Music Dept, offers the Stevenson student a variety of meaningful and interesting musi- cal experiences. In vocal music a student may elect to sing in the Girls' chorus, Girls Glee, Mens Chorus, A Cappella or the Madri- gal Singers and Jazz Lab. Instru- mental music division offers Introductory Band, Intermediate Band, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Music Theory I, Music Theory II, and Independent study. In addition to the music courses the music students participate in small groups. The highlight of the school year is the music dept, production of a Broadway musical. Musicals performed in the past were: Fiorello, My Fair Lady, Finians Rainbow, Sound of Music, Bells are Ringing, Oliver, Hello Dolly, and Oklahoma. Wiliam J. Misik is chairman of the Music Dept, and director of choral activities. Dave Habley is the director of the bands. Mr. Misik
