M :Km As We look back over our basketball record and note that we won twenty-four out of twenty-six games played, we know that it was the most successful basketball season in the history of Adena Hlh. Unfortunately the first game was lost to Smithfield and the last tour- ney game to Belle Valley. On February 22, the team went to Steubenville and there met Knoxville in the first round of the Jefferson County tournament. The boys played their best basketball and after playing four games won the county tournament. Then on to Dover where they met New Athens for the third time during the season and for the third time defeated them. Two games were played at Dover and the following week after journeying to Dennison the team was defeated by Belle Valley, not a better team but by this time the Adena boys were so tired and worn out that we cannot wonder they lost. By winning the County Tournament the third time, the silver lov- ing cup became the permanent possession of Adena High School. The Steubenville Chamber of Commerce presented the county champions with a silver basketball trophy. He was light but his speed and fight over-balanced his weight. Of course he had his off days but on the average, he played good ball. His favorite shot was from the middle of the floor and he made many of them. He will be missed by next year's team. Lewis Harrison-Forward Lew was a cool headed player and was high scorer for the team. He was fast at breaking for the basket, taking a shot or passing to a team mate. Lew was an ac- curate dribbler and passer as well as a good team player. He acted as floor lead- er in most of the games and will be missed next year. Victor Rucker-Center Not an outstanding player but steady and dependable. The boys liked to have him in the line-up and there was always something lacking when he was out. Vic' was good in blocking passes into the cen- ter and in breaking up dribbles. Another year will show improvement in Rucker's playing. Jonathon Moreland-Guard Here is one of the fastest men on the basket ball floor. His offensive work made him very valuable to the team. Johnny was especially good at dribbling and pass- ing besides ranking high in scoring. He has two more years and will probably be- come one of the greatest players ever turned out by Adena. 1 ni Iisliuiuiulnlinifliulukuiuli James Moacrip-Guard Jim was the best guard we had under the basket. His long arms often blocked a would-be shot and knocked down many a dribble. Jim was a better defensive man than he was offensive but he fitted in well with team play.
