troeinl» ij Mon, they tell us, is a social animal. Here at Adelphi Dr. Ware and her colleagues discuss the problems which affect the course of society and of the social animal. The courts and social agencies near Adelphi are grateful to the college for the intelligent and understanding workers which our sociology deportment has trained. Everything from Modern European History to Far- Eastern History is taken in stride by the historians of Adelphi. Dr. Chester Barrows plays the Great Justinian in this department. Don't let anyone tell you history is dull; these men make everything come alive from the signing of the Magna Carta to the real reasons behind the second World War. I Iliftirj Dr. Frederica Blankner teaches Plato and Ovid in the original! The Classics Department teaches Latin, Italian and Greek and makes a study of the classics in English translations. Vergil, Dante and Horace are made interesting by an association with the moderns.

The stampede these days has been toward the English courses. This department might well be labeled Enthusiasm I at Adelphi. Both intellectu- ally and personally the English department rates tops. They have managed to blow the dust off ancient literature and bring everything up to date. Under the able direction of Professor Owen Groves this department has made studying a pleasure. Courses in Victorian Literature go hand in hand with Contemporary Poetry; the Victorian Lit is as alive as the modern poetry. The English department is the home of a great deal of the new blood which is making Adelphi go ahead in the field of education. Activities are not limited to the stodgily scholastic; the English depart- ment is very much in evidence at all college activities. We can really say that here we have education with a personal touch.

frcack I French to be spoken is the motto here. The fol- lowers of Jean Sablon and Maggie Teyte finally can understand what their idols are singing about. With the trend toward foreign movies, French is definitely a must. Records and books of the greatest masters are brought within the reach of every stu- dent. With Mr. Langellier, our bona fide French- man, and his able assistants, French has taken on a glow for everyone. itMiik South America here we come! The students of Adelphi are falling in with the country-wide enthusi- asm for our Latin American neighbors, and, thanks to Miss Richardson and her department, we are well schooled in the main language of that conti- nent. Not only do we do a wicked rhumba, but also we have at our fingertips a knowledge of the culture and folk lore of South America and Spain. We are now in a position to out-Spanish the Spaniards! Wall Street has nothing on us! Just ask us anything about supply and demand or marginal utility and, thanks to Mr. Pope, we can answer on the spot. There are never any economic problems at Adelphi that are too difficult to be solved. Here eco ‘s taught on an adult level and our graduates can always be confident that their background is per- fect—none of those half-way clerks for us! Thanks to the economics department the scholastic rating of Adelphi has shot way up—and why not? We re theoretic geniuses when we graduate.
