Whg The Oak? In 1913 the first volume of the Review ap- peared, published by the students of Oak Cliff High School. This first book was dedi- cated to lVlr. W. H. Adamson, then principal at Oak Cliff High. ln 1916 volume lll was named the Oak. Why the Oak? We can only surmise. Since Hord,s Ridge had been renamed Oak Cliff and what is now Adamson High School had been intended to serve that area, what more appropriate name could have been selected for the yearbook than the Oak? Also the news- paper, named the Acorn, had its initial print- ing the preceding year and the saying, 'Big Oaks from little Acorns grow' may also have come to mind. And so, just as all the alittle Acorns re- port current events at Adamson, the ubign Oak pictures the entire year's activities. It has done so for the past 52 years. For over a half century, the Oak has told the story of the people who are Adamson High School. ,lust as the Oak tree is known for its sturdi- ness and durability, Adamson has proved throughout the years that it is a school strong in spirit, character, and scholarship. And even as the branches of an Oak tree stem in many angles, the students that have passed through Adamson have traveled in many di- rections and achieved many things. For these reasons, the Oak tree itself has been chosen as the theme of The Oak for 1967.
