Members of the varsity squad were: John Taylor, captain: Bob Miller, Ronnie Heald, Nelson Howard. Dick Heald. Bernard Baker, Bruce Crast, Bill Groff, Frederick Cole. James Be ner. Howard Hamilton. Carl Patten. George Bab- cock. Ed Frappicr and Dick Miller. The boys won 4 and lost 6 while the J.V. team won 6 and lost 0. On May 31, Adams High School placed third in the Sectional Meet held at Liverpool. Nelson Howard won first place in the Broad jump, jumping 17 feet 6 inches. The 1952-53 sports year started with football under the direction of Coach Murtagh. John Taylor was captain of the team which won 2 and lost 5 games. The basketball season started in November with Ed Wise as captain. The team did very well and held first place for more than half the season. The varsity won 12 and lost 7 games. The team played in the Oswego-Jefferson League and the Sectional play-offs in Watertown. In the intramural activities of the school the soccer championship was won by the sophomore girls and sophomore boys: heldball junior girls; basketball senior girls, junior A boys: volleyball senior girls, sophomore A boys: table tennis. Kathryn Groves and Ralph Cook, badminton. Peggy Patrick and Bob Miller: shufflcboard Hazel Remington, quoits, Ed Wise. The boys football was not completed because of bad weather. The girl’s interscholastic soccer team consisted of Peggy Patrick, captain: Edith Dickinson, Barbara Wetterhahn, J:«ne Adams, Joyce Odcrkirk. Florence Scofield. Marcia Dickenson. Camilla Hewitt, Joan Robarge. Eugenia Frcdenburg. Elaine Robarge, Kathryn Groves. Ruth Reeves. June Dowker. Joan Larkin. Marie Filson, Marion Palmer, Alice Kogut. Margaret Reed and Mary Kehoe. The girls won 2 and lost 1 games. In basketball Peggy Patrick was captain with Florence Scofield. Marion Palmer, Mary Kehoe, Margaret Reed. Jane Adams. Barbara Wetterhahn. Daphna Vrooman, Kathryn Groves, Joan Robarge. Camilla Hewitt and Ruth Reeves as teammates. The girls won 3 and lost 2 games. At the girls’ sport carnival held at Sandy Creek this year Peggy Patrick placed third in badminton singles while Eugenia Frcdenburg and Florence Scofield placed second in badminton doubles. The volleyball team which consisted of Peggy Patrick. Florence Scofield, Kathryn Groves. Lois Porter. Joan Robarge, Betty Porter. June Dowker, Jane Adams. Janice Compo, Marion Palmer. Mary Kehoe. Hazel Remington. Camilla Hewitt. Ruth Reeves, Daphna Vrooman and Barbara Wetterhahn placed second. Adams entered the Watertown Area Carnival with Ralph Cook and Floyd Brigham runners-up in table tennis. In the Sectional Meet held at Archbold Gymnasium, Adams placed second in the wrestling. Those winning top honors were: Perry Fowler, George Babcock. Donald Larkin and Clifford Cool. [31 ]
