Students Explore Fields of Science and Kim and Shirley show the proper use of a slide rule. Corky and Kathy examine the geometric solids. Science Enabling the scientists to work at their own speed was one of the main benefits on A.C.’s new science labs. While biology and zoology students dissected everything from clams to sharks, the physics class did ex¬ periments and investigated a ripple tank. Botany, one of two new science courses this year, was divided between classwork and field trips. Chemistry students used their new lab and equipment for working problems, evaluating compounds, and lis¬ tening to the tapes which explained the fundamentals of chemistry. Math Whether it was for training for future jobs or for application to everyday problems, the math studied by Central students pro¬ vided much homework, but the desired re¬ sults . Students enrolled in general math, geometry, first-or-second-year algebra, or senior math struggled to learn the basic concepts of their course, if it meant con¬ structing similar triangles or graphing parabolic functions . Whatever the subject was, Central ' s mathematicians soon learned ways in which they could put their newfound knowledge to good use. 20

H i 9 W fff $0 • A.C.’s agriculture department has as its main goal the development of competent, aggressive leadership, and the nurture and love of country life. The boys studied soils, animals, and feeding; they learned to prepare farm records and use the farm shop in ways that will benefit them.
