I KNOW, I know! seems to say the expression on one pupils face as Mrs. Furhman points out a note. The grade music classes, under the direc¬ tion of Mr. Henkel and Mrs. Furhman, learned many constructive ideas . These classes helped to bring out the musical ability in each student. The pupils learned to read notes, keep time, and to sing songs. They also listened to a variety of music. The art department, as in other years, did a wide variety of work this year. The high school students made pottery, jewelry, paintings, and mosaics. They also ex¬ tended a helping hand to provide the props and background settings for the many so¬ cial activities . In the spring the depart¬ ment held its annual art exhibit. Art and Music Classes Develop Interest in the Arts MR. 1 Many skills were gained through the voca¬ tional courses. In home economics, Mrs. Nielsen taught modern methods of cooking and sewing. Also, the girls planned their own weddings, and studied child care and home furnishings. Under the direction of Mr. Watson, the ag boys learned more about farming. They studied the soil, soil fertilization, and crop and livestock mana gement. They also put out their usual line of good judging teams. In industrial arts, Mr. Collier taught the boys skills useful for years to come. Among these were: woodworking, electri¬ city, welding, and architectural drawing. BECKY COLLINS and Carolyn Hart look on, as Bar¬ bara Wolff puts the finishing touch to an apron. Acquired by Vocational Courses SAM HEYERLY, David Sommer, Ron Schwartz, and Marvin Fosnaugh listen as Mr. Watson explains various kinds of seeds. LEO PARRISH, John Ross, Ned Mitchell, and Ralph Parrish work on their drawings in the architectural drawing class. 19

PUSH-UPS are only one of the many exercises used in the freshman phys. ed. class. What can reduce traffic accidents? Teaching drivers proper operation, common courtesy, and the correct traf¬ fic rules. These are just a few of the many things that Mr. Bryan taught to his driver training students. Physical education helped our freshmen and sophomores learn the rules of the many and varied sports activities car¬ ried on at Central. Most important, though, it taught teamwork and sports¬ manship . Mrs. Archbold and Mr. Miller, in their health classes as well, stressed to each student the importance of these traits, along with the need for good health, to wholesome living.
