Students in Mrs. Archbold ' s freshman physical education class do exercises as a warm-up before the game of basketball they will play. Essential in Modern Era The ability to get along as a team is not an easy task, but at A.C.H.S. we have an opportunity to learn through our well- developed physical education classes. The freshman and sophomore boys and girls are enrolled in a required physical education class while the upperclassmen keep active with intramural sports. At the head of the physical education classes are Mr. Fruth, Mr. Miller, Mr. Archbold, and Mr. Stork. Our driver ' s training classes help us to be skillful, courteous drivers, and teach us how to operate a car. Mr. Stork teaches driver ' s education. Dian Baumgartner, Carolyn Yake, Denny Mertz, and Ron Maines listen as Mr. Stork explains the function of each part of the car in driver ' s training class. 13 J

Bill Kohli, David Hamilton, Mervin Parrish, and Jerry Rowden do mechanical drawing in Mr. Collier ' s freshman shop class. Vocational Courses Learning by doing makes voca¬ tional classes some of the more in¬ teresting subjects. Homemaking is interesting and rewarding as we learn better ways to sew, cook, arrange homes, and care for children. The enthusiasm displayed in agri¬ cultural classes shows us How to keep them down on the farm by the study of soil and crop and livestock man¬ agement. Farm shop adds a knowledge of how to use spare time on the farm. Rosanne Lautzenheiser, Susan Frank, and Becky Collins prepare the in¬ gredients for a cobbler while Mrs. Neilsen helps Jane Jennings with the filling in the eighth grade home ec. class. Mr. Watso n, agriculture instmctor, gives pointers to Gary Workinger, Ronnie Schwartz, John Ross, and Forest Strickler on swine judging. 12

Palmer Urick, Lana McBride, Jack Wulliman, and Sandy Sanders of the eleventh grade chemistry class learn from Mr. Allspaw ' s explana¬ tion the process of water distilla¬ tion. Valences, Theories Test Mental Abilities Mr. Watson asks Julie Sanders and Janice Ringger to name some of the leaves of Indiana in the freshman biology class. Biology classes, made up of fresh¬ men, collected insects and disected fish and grasshoppers. Mr. Watson and Mr. Stork headed these classes. Chemistry class, taught by Mr, Allspaw, experimented with many dif¬ ferent acids and gases and also learned to formulate and balance equations. 14
