Shockey and Hornung Grow in Experience Pictured below are the school board members Bob Oaks, Lynn Elgin, Wilbur Bassett, Phil Umbaugh, and president Dean Mowry, seated. The school board met once a month with the other executives of the school. The major issue was keeping the school system in sound financial condition. During the 1976-1977 school year, Mr. Dick Shock- ey, superintendent, and Mr. Steve Hornung, princi- pal, succeeded in smoothly running our school. A major change was discontinuing homreoom which extended first hour to a full hour. Above, right, Mr. Shockey and Mr. Hornung are shown with the new intercom system which greatly improved communi- cations with each room. When asked what the major problem of the 1976-77 year was, Mr. Hornung an- swered, “breaking in the great number of new teach- ers.” Mr. Shockey answered, “keeping a budget.” Mr. Hornung felt the highlight of the year was reach- ing the senior financial goal. Mr. Shockey telt it was seeing the elementary through their first year in the new building. When asked if they would look back and do anything differently, Mr. Hornung stated, “1 would do away with study halls!” Mr. Shockey re- plied, “I would redesign the new art room.”
