Anita captured the title, after the Bombers tried to knock them off their pedestal. To inspire extra team spirit the coaches and team came up with the nickname The Bearcats for the Bomber defense. The football sea- son was the opportune place to get out in the weather and see the school spirit on the rise. The glrdirons finished with three vic- tories over O-M, B-F, C-M. This year customs were changed. The Thurs- day night pep rally saw the crowning of Queen Sharon and King Doug. The whole week was celebrated at the high school with days set aside for dressing down, mourning the defeat- ed, and dressing up. On Thursday, mourning day, a coffin was set up in the comer of the main hall and a hearse was parked outside the doors to prepare the gridiron for the slaughter the next night. During halftime the marching band performed while the class floats were paraded around the track and judged on appearance and thematic appropri- ateness. The winner was the juniors float Victory in Sight, followed by the sopho- mores and seniors, respectively. After the judging, the king, queen, and her candidates were introduced to the fans in the stands. After the game the sophomores sponsored the traditional homecoming dance with the Shades of Dawn performing. The sopho- mores chose to use the theme Coming in Peace, Coming in Love, Coming in Joy. The bonfire fired the Bombers up for their win over O-M. Also aiding the squad was the great spirit, not only of the students but the community as well. Everyone will agree that with the A-C team’s desire and the coaches help, homecoming was a special night. Mourning the corpse of a dead O-M player (played realistically by Linda Carl) is Mary Reha. Cheers went up in the streets of both Adair and Casey as elementary and senior high students rallied for victory. 16 Marcene Twidt; Carolyn Wedemeyer; Doug Richter, king; Sharon Wheatley, queen; Mary Ann Anderson; Becky StetzeL 17 Losses Do Not Dampen Bombers Spirit A-C girls found it nearly impos- sible to win this year as they pro- ceeded to chalk up a 2-18 record, thus accumulating one of their worst records to date. The boys made vast improvements in their speed and ball control and managed nine wins. Size of team mem- bers still remains a crucial element in the team's inability to control a greater win record, but many of the team members are still quite young and have long years ahead of them. The JV girls didn't do very well as they only won 4 of 11 games. The freshmen girls gained alot of ex- perience in ball handling. JV boys had an exceptionally good season, winning 11 of 12 games. The fresh- men and sophomore boys really put it all together. 18 The boys' record this year was nine wins and eleven losses. Two of the victories were in sectional play. 19 Varsity Strikes A-€ 59 B-F 78 A-C 58 Earlham 41 A-C 40 Anita 66 A-C 58 C-M 60 A-C 37 Bayard 87 A-C 41 S-M 74 A-C 79 O-M 64 A-C 64 B-F 87 A-C 64 Van Meter 53 A-C 67 Earlham 63 A-C 57 Elk Horn 66 A-C 59 C-M 58 A-C 55 S-M 70 A-C 55 O-M 49 A-C 48 Exira 54 A-C 54 Anita 81 A-C 72 Dexfield 64 Top row: Dallas Dinkla, Jim Fagan, Bill Llttler. Under the direction of Mr. Jack Briggs. Adair-Casey's vocal department presented a fall, Christmas, and formal spring concert. On an exchange basis, the Adair choir performed in the Anita High School gym; the Anita choir sang here. Because of the small cast involved, the choirs were not used as chorus for the spring musical, ’’You’re a Good Man. Charlie Brown”; however, the Anita concert more than compensated for the loss. Facilities for music department still in- cludes a nearly defunct piano, but they are now enhanced by new risers that can accommodate the large size of the concert choir; and, because of new curtains on the stage, both musical and dra- matic presentations can be presented in front of more theatrical surroundings. Bob also thanked the juniors for the success of the prom and dedicated an original poem to the seniors: Here's to the class of ' 2 May their eyes shine bright when days are blue; But not. if always will you see None brighter than ones of '73. Mr. Horspoke light-heartedly of former proms he has attended and interjected some notes on sports into the body of his talk. In his customary brief speaking. Mr. Billings ex- pressed great pleasure in the prom surroundings and his year at Adair-Casey. The juniors put all their creativity into the decoration of the gym by painting black-and-white murals based on the art style of Peter Max (a modernistic painter who has done recent posters for 7-Lp). However, the highlight of the decorations was a rainbow that added a touch of color and romance to the gym. Providing the dance music was THE SUNDAY SOCIAL.
