Cartooning “Draws” Doner Future Farmer Success Rung Fu Bunny. Razzlefats the Cat. These and other characters appear in the cartoon portfolio of senior Chris Doner. Although the portfolio collection just began in July of 1987. Chris has been drawing cartoons since the seventh grade. His first “publication appeared in the junior high newspaper here at Ada. Chris uses a dry sense of humor to attack any and all subject matter. Chris's style is similar to Gary [.arson's The Far Side , which he greatly admires. Another cartoon favorite of his is “Mother Goose and Grimm currently syndicated in the Toledo Blade. Puns, or playing on words, is a favorite approach for Chris. A quiet and introspective individual, Chris agrees that his cartooning is a form for expressing his own wit and humor. He sees his drawings as a “backward look at life”, a comedic reaction to people and events of the past. Although Chris admits that sharing his work with peers was difficult at first, positive feedback from classmates encouraged him to begin a portfolio. Each entry is titled, signed, and dated. An avid follower of the Martial Arts. Chris would like to begin formal Ninjulsu training after graduation. Two of the nation’s largest schools for Ninjutsu are here in Ohio, making his plans a possibility. Chris also hopes to continue his education at the college level, looking at art as a major field of study. According to Chris, it is “extremely difficult to break into the cartooning industry.” However, he plans to continue to submit his work in hopes of becoming a published cartoonist. 1987 State Farmer Degree. 1988 Star Chapter Farmer. First in the district and fifth in the state of Ohio in the 1987 land judging competition. State District Vice President for 1987-88, and a pile of more than a dozen trophies. The list of successes for senior FFA member Matt Klinglcr goes on and on. Currently serving as the president of the Ada FFA Chapter and working on election as the state FFA president, Matt spends a great deal of his time traveling and speaking on agriculture. “There’s money to be made” (in agriculture) according to Klingler. He sees his role as a public relations ambassador ... “always competing against agriculture’s bad image. The best part of his experience has been meeting so many people. A special memory was his participation at the National Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. Matt’s future includes plans to attend Ohio State, majoring in Soil Science, and farming here in Ada. He is also hoping to participate in a two-month work study program in Australia during the winter of ’88. Senior Features 7 REYOHt -------- J2 -----------
