CLASS PROPHECY As I lay back in my easy chair in the year of '61 my mind drifted back to the days spent at dear 'ole A.H.S. and some of the wonderful classmates I had had. Propping my feet up on a stool, no other person popped in my mind but Joe Brown. Joe was now a famous millionare in the now fast moving modern world. It seemed as though some rich uncle had died and left him a sum of money. Joe lived about a block from me in a huge modern home. He had employed as his valet Bobby West! Alice Rowe was doing the cooking, but poor old Joe was still a bachelor. As my mind sailed back I thought of classmates who were employed in great Jobs right in my own home town. There was Betty Paige King, who owned the corner beauty shop and who fixed my hair weekly. There was also Allen Davenport who now owned the towns largest florist shop and was world famous in the business. At the hospital Kay Edwards was employed as Superintendent of Nurses Louise Robbins, Nellie Carmine, Lois and Susie Hall were also employed as nurses. Living right next door to me was none other than Mrs. Merton West the former Fay Edwards, one of my favorite classmates. My what a happy day this was. I happened to pick up the paper and whose picture should I seeg but Joseph Rowe's? Joe had recently returnedb from coaching the Brooklyn Dodgers. Nelson West was pictured on the front page. He had been promoted to Admiral in the Navy. That reminded me that Gerald was also in the Navy. I fingered through the pages where I came across the comics and I learned that Jackie West was now a famous cartoonist and had succeeded Al Capp in writing Lil Abner . A knock sounded on the door and who should be there, but Leonard Riley, who was now one of the towns most able Baptist Ministers. As we discussed our classmates, I learned that Ernest Lee now owned a large pickle factory and had hired as his private secretary none other than Helen Croswell. In one of his offices he had employed Marion Davis. I learned that George Belvin and Winfred Hogge were aviators and had em- ployed 8S,St9W8Pd6S363 on their planes Frances Worley and Elva Hall. Mary Eva, Leonard told me, was a famous hat designer, and she and Billy had moved to Paris. Ray Borden now had lights flashing on him in the world. He was being presented nightly at Carnegie Hall as a famous concert pianist. Carolyn Crew was opera soloist also at Carnegie Hall. Leonard had just found out that Dickie was a famous basketball player and that he would speak tonight on television concerning the sports world. And after learning that, I learned Wellington Carmine was a famous commercial artist. We retired for dinner. Mary Alice Williams
