GLASS HISTORY Four years ago when we were Freshmen our graduation day looked so far in the future we seemly never thought of lt. But now it seems as though it was only yesterday. In the year of 1947, sixty-three of us were Freshmen. We had Mrs. M. T. Harris as our sponsor a few weeks, then Mrs. Anderton took us over. Our officers of this year were: President, Leonard Riley: vice-president, Susie Ann Hall: secretary and treasurer, Frances Heywood, historian, Lois Ha1l.0ur motto was: 'At the bottom but c1imbing.' Our colors were green and gold, and our Flower was the gardenia. Only forty-four of us managed to reach the Sophomore Glass. Our leaders this year were: Wallace Taylor, president, Ray Borden, vice-president, Betty Paige King, secretary, Mary Eva West, treasurer, Mrs. Anderton, sponsor. Our motto was: 'A winner never quits and a quiter never wins.' Our colors were blue and gold, and our flower was the gardenia. Only thirty-three of us reached the Ju ior Class. Billy Geougs came in later and made thirty-four. We had a very successful year with Mary Alice Williams, president, Nelson West, vice-president: Leonard Riley, secretary: Betty Paige King, treasurer, sponsor, Mrs. Anderton. We had quite a pleasant year and gave a play entitled 'The Jade Ringn, which was said to have been enjoyed by all. We also entertained the Seniors at a banquet. Finally, we have reached the Senior Class. We are sorry to say Wallaa Taylor left, leaving us with an uneven number thirty-three. Officers for this year are: President, Ray Borden: vice-president, Nelson West, secretary, Helen Croswellg treasurer, Nellie Carmine: and we are glad to say that we have Mrs. Anderton back again as our sponsor. later during this year two other members of our class left, Mary Eva Jordan and Billy Geouge, but Mary Eva has returned. We wave a play entitled nMy Wife's Familyu and a Halloween Party which was a great success. We want to say that we are the first class to have maroon and gray caps and gowns for graduation, and the first to have our pictures 1n the annual in caps and gowns. And we are first at Achilles to ever have the same sponsor all Pour years of high school.
